Friend, on January 6, as the Capitol was under attack by MAGA rioters, Kevin McCarthy placed a call to ask Trump to call off his mob. Trump responded to McCarthy simply: “Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.” McCarthy screamed back: “They’re trying to f*ck-ing kill me!” Just weeks later, McCarthy totally forgot about his near death experience at the hands of Trump rioters. When asked by reporters about his call with Trump, he protected Trump and turned his anger to the representative who had [relayed]( the call to reporters. This was how McCarthy began whitewashing what happened on January 6 to protect Trump. McCarthy would go on to oppose the bipartisan commission to investigate the deadly insurrection, when that failed, he tried to install Trump sycophants to sabotage the House select committee, and has refused to testify to it himself. This is what McCarthy, a man who feared for his life that day, has done as minority leader to protect the orange Jesus. Now imagine what he could do as speaker of the House. A Trump-loyal speaker could [impede and undermine]( federal investigations into Trump by defunding the investigations, hold numerous retaliatory phony Benghazi-like hearings, or slash the salary of specific federal officials or eliminate blocks of federal employees. As Rep. Steny Hoyer summed it up, they will “use the levers of government to target, harass, and defund.” When it comes time to certify the 2024 presidential election results, conspiring Trump loyalists in positions of power, like governor, could certify fake electors in a swing state. A House controlled by McCarthy and other Trumpists could vote to count those sham electors, installing Trump to the White House. This is dangerous. We're taking no chances. Thought the investigations into Hillary Clinton's emails were bad? Buckle up. Republicans plan to "investigate" everyone from Attorney General Merrick Garland to Dr. Anthony Fauci. Of course none of their investigations have any legitimacy, but that won't stop them from wasting our time and money on personal grievances. - Ignite right-wing culture wars. Expect one bill after another targeting transgender children, public education, same-sex marriages, and more. Hope you're not tired of talking about other people's genitals because the GOP cannot get enough of it. - Ban abortion and contraception. I don't have anything pithy to say about this. We've seen the abortion ban they plan to pass. We've already lost too many people since Republican state legislatures outlawed abortion care. Our families and communities deserve better. All of this is on top of general Republican nonsense like tax cuts for corporations and the ultra-rich, cutting Social Security, selling off public lands, and bringing us to the brink of war with Iran or China or whoever they're mad at that day. If Republicans take control of the House, Kevin McCarthy will have the votes to deliver an extreme agenda. However, while the GOP only needs to flip five seats to take control, and we're defending a lot of vulnerable members, there's a whole host of districts where Democrats can go on offense and turn seats from red to blue.
