Dr. Fauci says that if we do not take drastic coordinated measures to curb the spread of the virus during the winter months, we could see 400,000 deaths by March. A simple measure to help limit the spread of the coronavirus is wearing masks, yet there is no nationwide mandate requiring Americans to do so. Although a number of states have enacted statewide mandates, many states have not done so, making a nationwide mandate the only way to ensure that all Americans are safe, no matter which state they live in. Instead of allowing for the continued politicizing of a basic necessity during the coronavirus pandemic, Congress must act swiftly and decisively in coordinating a national mask mandate. In fact, experts say that wearing a face mask may help people avoid major illness even if they get the coronavirus. To protect the lives of millions, Congress must authorize a national face mask mandate as soon as possible.
