He was convicted of 34 felony counts in his hush money case. But the Supreme Court’s extreme, reckless, anti-democratic “absolute immunity” ruling allowed Trump to escape real accountability long enough to win a second term as president. The SCOTUS ruling let Trump off the hook just long enough to get back to the White House. In her dissenting opinion on the absolute immunity ruling, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote, "In every use of official power, the president is now a king above the law." She added that she feared for our democracy.2 Her sentiment is brought into even starker focus with Trump set to take office again in January.
