Iâve spent a lot of time in the past 48 or so hours thinking about fear. The thing that triggered this for me was hearing the usual cadre of left-wing talking heads claim that Tuesday night was a product of fear â Donald Trump running on it, white people fearing immigrants, men fearing women in power, Christians fearing trans people and abortion. NOTHING TO FEAR Good morning Callers, and happy Friday. Dylan Housman here filling in for Geoff for one last day before he returns Monday, which weâll be spending in-office because âif I (Geoffrey Ingersoll, proud Marine) can come in, so can the rest of you.â I for one like my job, and also like our office environment, so no complaints here. I also like America, and my fellow Americans, and most things about the society weâve collectively built together (despite some very real problems that we all need to fix, of course). That takes me to todayâs still somewhat election-related topic ⦠NOTHING TO FEAR Iâve spent a lot of time in the past 48 or so hours thinking about fear. The thing that triggered this for me was hearing the usual cadre of left-wing talking heads claim that Tuesday night was a product of fear â Donald Trump running on it, white people fearing immigrants, men fearing women in power, Christians fearing trans people and abortion. Itâs incredibly ironic, isnât it? Because I donât think I sensed much fear on our side of the aisle this whole election cycle. There was a whole lot of urgency, sure. Even some catastrophizing, with some clamoring that if Kamala Harris won the election, America and the West as we know it would cease to exist. But even those pitches didnât strike me as fearful. I interpreted them as more fight than flight. I didnât hear any conservatives claiming theyâd move to foreign countries if Trump lost. People didnât fear immigrants, they simply wanted their family to live in a safe and affordable country. There was no fear of trans people, just a desire to protect girls from men in their spaces and children from life-altering decisions made under duress. There was no fear of a woman as president â just a rejection of the vision (or lack thereof) of the particular woman running for the job. All of the fear right now exists right now on the other side, and itâs incredibly sad. To the same degree that I love my country, and my fellow Americans, these people seem to view the rest of us as monsters. They think Donald Trump is going to round up everyone with the name âRamirezâ and put them in camps. Theyâre telling women to delete their period tracking apps, for reasons Iâm not really fully grasping but apparently relate to an abortion ban Donald Trump has no intention of enacting. Iâve even seen some women in D.C. claiming theyâre afraid Republicans are going to take over the city post-inauguration and start sexually assaulting everyone. Itâs truly deranged stuff, and it only exists because unfortunately half the country has been lied to about what the other half believes. The liberal media industrial complex has convinced their acolytes that the average Trump voter wants to enact some dark, authoritarian version of America that deprives them of their rights and desires. Itâs not true, I know that and you reading also know that. The charge of âvoting on fearâ is a projection by people who said their opponent was literally Adolf Hitler. Iâve been encouraged by the movement of some conservatives to, instead of mocking these people, try to talk them off the ledge. Thereâs been a social media trend of conservative women, in particular, sharing information to liberal women to say, hey, we arenât trying to enact the Handmaidâs Tale here. Thatâs good, and I hope it continues. To be sure, there are certain people who have held power in this country that need to be held accountable, and hopefully that does come to fruition after Jan. 20. But for the general public, this country has a lot of healing to do, and contrary to what the media would tell you, itâs the Trump voters I see leading the way on that front so far.
