More than anything else that happened last night, Americans voted against an empty pantsuit. Over the past couple of decades, the ruling class has been on a mission of imposition. Telling you what to think. Telling you how to pray. Telling you not to believe your lying eyes and ears. SHE’S NOT SPEAKING Good morning America, Deputy Managing Editor Dylan Housman here filling in for Geoff, who’s doing a little post-election work travel the next two days. Last night was pretty crazy. The takes will be flying, the autopsies will be autopsied, but there’s one raw takeaway I’ve got that I don’t really need to dive into the exit polls or turnout numbers to know is true already … SHE’S NOT SPEAKING More than anything else that happened last night, Americans voted against an empty pantsuit. Over the past couple of decades, the ruling class has been on a mission of imposition. Telling you what to think. Telling you how to pray. Telling you not to believe your lying eyes and ears. All the modern excesses of the American elite have been top-down impositions, from sex-changing kids to locking down gyms in the name of health to blowing billions of dollars on DEI bureaucracies. What happened last night is that the Democratic Party tried to bring that imposing authoritarianism directly into the political space, and Americans said hell no. They hadn’t totally tried it before. Barack Obama was a generational candidate with real grassroots support. Hilldawg, say what you want, had some people genuinely excited about the whole first woman president thing. Even Biden, despite getting bailed out in the 2020 primary by the party establishment, had genuine support among the black community that lifted him to the White House. Kamala Harris had none of that. She was openly given the VP position due to the color of her skin and the content of her pants. She did not win a single primary vote before becoming her party’s nominee. When Biden dropped out, nobody else even dared contest her anointment at the DNC. No, she was simply installed by the people that know better, and you were all told to shut up and like it. She was the human embodiment of the left-wing project of top-down imposition. She ran her campaign with nothing, too. She refused to speak to the public in a non-controlled way for nearly the whole race. Her aides walked back all her previous policy positions while she refused to explain her new ones. She said there was no difference between herself and Joe Biden while also running as a change agent. In an industry overrun with empty suits, she was the most egregious I’ve ever seen. You can say a lot of things about Donald Trump. He’s not a perfect candidate. In fact, by the “conventional wisdom,” he’s actually a very flawed one. He even lost once and attempted a comeback at the presidency, something totally unheard of in modern American politics, that nobody in the Beltway believed could realistically be done when he first started this third run. But Donald Trump is authentic and original. Nobody sat around wondering where he stood on key issues, because he wears his positions openly and proudly. He wasn’t installed by party and media elites, quite the opposite – he essentially pulled a ground-up coup on the establishment GOP 8 years ago and never looked back. He didn’t have professional journalists and consultants carefully stage-managing his entire public persona to make sure voters knew as little as possible about him. That, I truly believe, is why voters rejected Kamala Harris last night and went with Trump, warts and all. There was only one real candidate even on the ballot to begin with. The other “candidate” was a humanoid amalgamation of the worst excesses of modern progressive institutions, hand-picked by the very same people who dug this country into a deep hole with the purpose of continuing to dig. Nothing could really sum it all up better than the fact that the “I’m Speaking” queen didn’t even address her supporters last night – she sent out a man to close down her watch party instead.
