Design editor Wendy Goodman takes you inside the city’s most exciting homes and studios. [Design Hunting](   September 24, 2024   [They’re Not in Kansas City Anymore Todd and Emily Voth’s bold pied-à -terre in Herzog & de Meuron’s “Jenga Building” drinks in the city lights.]( The living room. Photo: Joshua McHugh Emily and Todd Voth own a century-old home in Kansas City, Missouri. But after they sold their natural-soap company, Indigo Wild, in 2018, they realized they wanted a place in Manhattan, too. They bought this unit on the 29th floor of Herzog & de Meuron’s “Jenga Building,” at 56 Leonard Street, and hired David Mann of MR Architecture + Decor to design its interiors. But they were wary: “Is this going to be some big New York designer? Are we going to get what we want?” Emily says. “Because, you know, Todd being an architect and me being an entrepreneur, we definitely have our opinions.” Also: “We didn’t want brown or mid-century,” says Emily. Mann, who often works in black and white, decided instead that he would feature a variety of rich colors: “The best approach with a pied-à -terre that was so bright,” because of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
