Recently, a client asked me: “Craig, I’m having trouble with all day energy... dude, for 40 years old, you just never seem to stop. How do you do it?” My Answer: For the record, I’m 49 ;) I do not lack drive because I am mission-powered. I am obsessed with your success... and the success of strangers I have not yet met. I despise unnecessary suffering and “struckling”... And so I can’t wait to wake up before 3:57am, kiss Michelle on the forehead, jump out of bed, and work on my business... All day long — minus some well timed breaks to take care of our three little ones under 3 (!!!) I dunno if this is right or wrong... it just is. Energy is not a problem for me... BUT... It once was when I was broke, struggling, introverted, socially anxious, binge-drinking personal trainer... that didn’t want to be any of those things (especially the personal trainer part). When I wasn’t living the kind of life I wanted to live… When my daily work lacked meaning & purpose… Even though I was 20 years younger, I didn’t have all-day energy back then. Instead, I wanted to collapse into bed at 2pm every day. So I did a deep dive into energy management and eventually uncovered… 7 critical factors that give me all-day energy and help maintain optimal performance: 1. Going to bed at the same time each night 2. Getting up at the same time each morning 3. Drinking one liter of water as quickly as possible 4. Consuming two moderate doses of caffeine two hours apart early in the day 5. Exercising daily (preferably in the sunshine) 6. Knowing what matters and saying NO to what doesn’t 7. Setting high expectations for myself and gathering public accountability to hit these standards Number 7 is also known as “Turning PRO”. To accept anything other than consistent performance is like saying that a Pro UFC Fighter can’t fight unless he’s “in the mood”. That’s not acceptable to you as the viewer or the fighter. He’s a pro. You are a PRO too... therefore, it’s just not an option to be inconsistent. Nutrition is also a key to consistency... For example, I follow a "daily formula": - Same bedtime and pre-bed rituals - Same wake-up time and morning routine - Same food every day until dinner (then I eat what I desire) I've found what works during the day and I don't deviate from it. You must find what works for you. Eating the same thing at the same time every day usually helps (you still get nutritional variation by switching up your evening meals). Once you find the things that work for you — you must stick to them... This can be your only operating system. Period. Full stop. You are a PRO... not an average Joe. I also highly recommend reading the book, Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield. It will help you internalize the identity and mindset you need to be a pro and level up no matter what. ======== Even though this message was originally for a client, I wanted to share it with you too.
