[Courier: Democracy's Newsroom]( Between April and September, the top five U.S. newspapers by circulation — including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post — published 378 articles referencing President Biden’s or Donald Trump’s ages. Of these 378 articles, 88 percent mentioned Biden’s age while just 42 percent mentioned Trump’s — despite the fact the two men are less than three years apart. We’ll explain more about why this blatant hypocrisy is happening in just a moment, but if you’re ready to support factual, local journalism free from the toxic “both sides” dynamic that has dominated so much of the 2024 Presidential election coverage, [please chip in anything you can afford today.]( President Biden’s age has been THE central talking point for Donald Trump, Fox News, and the rest of the right-wing media since the 2020 election. Famously, Trump called Biden “sleepy Joe” in a childish attempt to smear Biden with a negative label like he did in 2016 when he baselessly called Hillary Clinton “crooked.” Unsurprisingly, Fox News, Newsmax, and others on the right have continued to amplify Trump’s attacks on Biden’s age. Today, misinformation, deep fake videos, and bogus medical claims about Biden’s fitness for office are thriving online and offline. The study showing hypocritical coverage of Biden by the mainstream media shows just how pervasive the right-wing attacks on Biden’s age have become. Friend, Donald Trump, and the right-wing media are masterful at manipulating the mainstream media. They understand that if a lie gets repeated long enough, a group will always believe it's true. And when that happens, they know the mainstream media will help spread the lie in the name of providing "balance" and "both sides" coverage. At Courier, our model is entirely different. We provide factual information about the issues that matter the most to the communities served by our newsrooms. We will never compromise our values in the name of so-called “balance” or telling “both sides” of a story. At Courier, we don’t believe in so-called “alternative facts.” Lies are lies, and the truth is the truth, period. Unlike the mainstream media, we keep our reporting accessible to all without locking it behind a paywall or subscription fee. Because of the generosity of grassroots supporters like you, we can fight back and stop the spread of right-wing misinformation campaigns at their source.
