The Epoch Times is booming during a consequential election year [Courier]( Remember The Epoch Times, friend? The Epoch Times is a far-right news outlet known for spreading anti-vaccine misinformation and 2020 election conspiracies. They spent more money on advertising for Donald Trump in 2020 than any organization outside the Trump campaign. You may have seen their bizarre “#1 trusted news” billboards popping up in cities nationwide: Now, friend, The Epoch Times’ influence is growing. Earlier this year, they announced the opening of a new journalism school to train the next generation of right-wing media stars. This summer, they expanded into the faith-based movie market, releasing a movie starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. [We’ll tell you more about their big year (and why it matters) in a moment. But if you want to help us combat The Epoch Times' right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories, can you pitch in $17 now?]( This year hasn't been all good for The Epoch Times. In June, the Department of Justice indicted the Chief Financial Officer at The Epoch Times in a multinational $67 million money laundering scheme. The scheme boosted revenues at The Epoch Times by about 410%, and some of those dollars went directly to efforts to re-elect Trump in 2020. While the DOJ has been working on the case, The Epoch Times has been up and running, and most importantly, growing rapidly. In April, The Epoch Times announced its goal to support a new journalism school in the same city as its HQ. The outlet said the school would champion The Epoch Times’ values of “truth and traditional.” They’ve even promised internships and jobs to promising graduates at the outlet and its sister network, NTD, an equally right-wing and conspiratorial television news station. In August, they released their movie “The Firing Squad,” a drama starring Cuba Gooding Jr. about drug smugglers who find God behind bars. This move into faith-based films aims to tap into a lucrative market, which conservative filmmakers claim counters Hollywood’s “liberal” agenda. The New York Times has already called The Epoch Times “one of the country’s most powerful digital publishers.” If any of these new ventures succeed, their influence will only grow during a consequential election year.
