Trump and Fox News are laying the foundation for another January 6th [Courier]( Hi friend, A new NPR poll out this week shows that most voters—6 in 10—are concerned or very concerned about election fraud. That includes a staggering 88% of Trump supporters. [We’ll explain how Donald Trump and Fox News are teaming up to spread the new “big lie” in a moment, but if you can, please chip in $17 now to support COURIER’s critical election coverage.]( Almost four years have passed, but Donald Trump hasn’t stopped lying about the results of the 2020 election. Just this week, during the Vice Presidential debate, Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, gave a “damning non-answer” when asked directly by Tim Walz if Trump truly won. At a Michigan rally on Thursday, Trump went even further, falsely claiming he won the state in 2020, despite losing Michigan by over 150,000 votes. Michigan, of course, was one of the states where Trump tried to overturn the results based on unsubstantiated fraud claims. And it doesn’t stop there. According to Media Matters, in the past three weeks, Fox News, Fox Business, and Newsmax have made over 141 baseless claims about non-citizens voting. These networks are pushing a dangerous lie that Democrats are encouraging non-citizens to vote to swing the election for Kamala Harris. Some hosts have even claimed that thousands of non-citizens have already voted. They’re combining Trump’s two favorite conspiracy theories—election denial and immigration—into one fear-mongering narrative, setting the stage to deny the results of the 2024 election. That’s the bad news. The good news is that COURIER is already fighting back. Our reporters in 11 battleground newsrooms are working year-round to push back against the right-wing lies and conspiracies that damage our democracy. That means we will be around after Election Day, ready to counter right-wing election lies before they spread.
