Trump used veterans’ graves for political clout. The right-wing wants to bury the story. Friend

Trump used veterans’ graves for political clout. The right-wing wants to bury the story. [Courier]( Friend, You may have heard by now of Trump's visit to Arlington Cemetery on Monday. If not, here’s what you need to know: - Officials explicitly warned the Trump team that campaigning at the cemetery was forbidden. - While at the cemetery, Trump and his team got into an “altercation” with an official who was trying to enforce the cemetery’s rules. - On Tuesday, the Trump campaign posted content from Trump’s visit, including a photo of Trump smiling and giving a thumbs-up at the grave of a fallen soldier. So how is the right-wing media covering the controversy? They’re not. They are actively trying to help Trump cover it up. [We’ll explain more in a moment, but we are less than 48 hours away from our end-of-month deadline. Can you chip in $25 now to help us reach our $40,000 fundraising goal?]( Friend: this is just another incident in a long pattern of Donald Trump disrespecting the military, veterans, and fallen soldiers. Trump famously attacked late Senator John McCain for being captured in war in 2015, insulted Gold Star families in 2016, and called fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers” in 2018. But you won’t hear these stories on Fox News and in the right-wing press. Instead, Fox News hosts are spinning the controversy in an attempt to make it all look good for Trump. Fox Business host David Asman, Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade, and Fox host Jeanine Pirro all praised Trump for visiting the cemetery, and criticized Kamala Harris for not doing the same – even though Trump’s visit was in clear violation of the rules. On X, the increasingly right-wing social media site owned by Trump-backer Elon Musk, the story was marked as “potentially spammy or unsafe,” a strange warning readers saw when they clicked on the article link. While the right-wing media bends over backward to paint Donald Trump as an eagle-loving, flag-hugging patriot, COURIER is telling the truth about Trump’s history of disrespecting military service. That’s because we are committed to providing a factual alternative to the right-wing echo chamber. We know that quality journalism is harder to find than ever, and we know right-wing media, like Fox News and increasingly X, are doing everything to fill that void with propaganda and lies. The good news is that COURIER has newsrooms up and running in the states that will decide this upcoming election. With your help, we can fight back and make journalism a force for good in our democracy. [We have 48 hours until our August fundraising deadline.
