Trump said a civilian medal of honor was “better” than the one given to soldiers because they are “either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.” [Courier]( Friend, On the campaign trail in New Jersey, Donald Trump once again trashed veterans who were injured or killed in the line of duty. At a rally, he claimed the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a civilian award he gifted to a Republican billionaire, was a “better” award than the Congressional Medal of Honor typically bestowed to military personnel. His reasoning? The Medal of Honor goes to veterans who are “either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.” It’s a disgraceful comment from a former President that echoes Trump’s belief that John McCain wasn’t a real war hero because Trump likes “people who don’t get captured.” So how is Fox News covering it? You guessed it, they’re not. Instead, they’re swift-boating Tim Walz. [We’ll get into the details in a second, but if you’d like to help COURIER hold Fox News accountable for their hypocrisy, can you chip in $20 now?]( Since Kamala Harris announced 24-year veteran Tim Walz as her running mate, Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Fox News have breathlessly smeared his service, accusing him of “stolen valor.” The attacks are eerily similar to the 2004 Swift Boat attacks on John Kerry. That’s by design. Chris LaCivita is now a senior adviser to the Trump campaign and has been extremely influential for Trump’s 2024 run. Fox News has devoted hours of coverage to amplifying the attack. Of course, Fox smearing Democrats as unpatriotic is nothing new. There’s the swiftboat campaign against purple heart recipient John Kerry in 2004. The outrage over President Obama’s Marine salute in 2014. And, more recently, sharp criticism for President Biden because he supposedly checked his watch during a ceremony for deceased Marines in 2021. Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly and publicly expressed disdain for veterans and fallen soldiers. Trump famously attacked late Senator John McCain for being captured in war in 2015, insulted Gold Star families in 2016, and called fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers” in 2018. But you won’t hear about any of that on Fox News. Here at COURIER, we hold Fox News accountable for its hypocrisy in real time. If they don’t talk about Trump’s antipathy towards veterans, we will. And we’ll correct the lies they spread about Tim Walz and other Democrats, too. We’re committed to telling the truth, and our fact-based reporting in our eleven battleground states exists to set the record straight and call out the lies on the right.
