The Midwestern dad is gaining popularity. Conservatives are terrified. [Courier]( Friend, On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her running mate – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. A slew of politicians, from progressive Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Senator Joe Manchin to Republicans like Maryland Senate candidate Larry Hogan, came out in support of Walz. But most Republicans are in attack mode, rushing to define Walz as a radical left-winger. Friend, things are starting to get weird. [We’ll get into the strange attacks on Walz in a sec, but if you support COURIER’s mission to push back against radical right-wing coverage of the 2024 election, can you chip in $20 now?]( Walz, a former coach and teacher, has quickly won support from across the political spectrum because of his achievements as the popular governor of Minnesota, including providing free lunches for all Minnesota public school students, codifying abortion rights into state law, and allowing all residents to get driver’s licenses. He’s also the guy who famously described Donald Trump and JD Vance as “weird” and out of touch with the American mainstream. To Republicans, of course, that means Tim Walz is the next great liberal bogeyman. And they’re willing to lie like crazy to get voters to believe that. Here’s some of the weird attacks Fox News and the MAGA right are testing on the news and social media: - Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk called Walz’s popular policies “radical,” claiming he turned Minnesota into a “war zone.” - Stephen Miller took to One America News to call Walz “Tampon Tim,” the now-popular attack on the governor who passed legislation to put free menstrual products in school bathrooms. - Jesse Watters questioned why Walz and his wife spent their honeymoon in China, claiming he was “being groomed by the Chinese.” - Greg Gutfeld went for the looks attack on Fox News, calling Walz “a male Karen with a pot belly.” The attacks range from stupid to weird to downright lies. But what’s new? Here’s the thing, friend: Walz isn’t a radical – he’s a dad, an educator, and an effective Governor who just so happens to be a Democrat. And the right is scared that voters will see all that. So they’re doing what they always do by throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Here at COURIER, we’re ready to fight back against right-wing election lies and fear-mongering by calling out Fox News and the MAGA right in real-time. In our eleven battleground states, we’re working around the clock to ensure voters have everything they need to make an informed decision at the ballot box this November. That includes telling the truth about who Tim Walz is and dismantling the ridiculous smears and attacks.
