It’s going to be a long three months [Courier]( Friend, In the last 48 hours, Democrats have rallied behind Kamala Harris, helping her raise a record-breaking $81 million in the first days of her campaign. Meanwhile, the MAGA-right is in full meltdown mode. Responses to Joe Biden refusing his party’s nomination have ranged from angry calls on him to resign to crazy conspiracy theories that Democrats staged a coup and have broken election laws. Unfortunately, that anger has also manifested itself in racist, sexist attacks on Kamala Harris. [In a moment, we’ll talk more about the disturbing rhetoric and how it could foreshadow a vicious far-right campaign strategy for the final months of the election, but if you’re ready to help COURIER call out the radical right-wing media coverage of Harris, can you chip in $20 now?]( Yesterday, we told you about how Sean Hannity, Fox News, and Newsmax disgracefully attacked Harris in the immediate aftermath of Joe Biden publicly endorsing Harris to be the Democratic nominee. They, and others on the right, called her a “DEI hire” and Hannity echoed his attacks on Hillary Clinton by saying Harris was unlikeable and had a laugh that voters “detest.” In the last 24 hours, the racist and sexist attacks have only accelerated: - In an “X”/Twitter post that went viral among right-wingers, Harris’ citizenship and eligibility to run for president was baselessly called into question. The lie echoed the racist “birther” conspiracy that Donald Trump spread about Barack Obama. - Other right-wing influencers took to social media to spread lies about Harris’ previous romantic relationships, saying that she got her start in politics by sleeping with powerful men. One powerful Christian Nationalist activist even called her a “jezebel.” - In overtly racist jabs, Kellyanne Conway took to Fox News to claim Harris “doesn’t work hard” and “doesn’t speak well.” Newsmax’s Sebastian Gorka even called her “colored.” The bad news about all this is that, in all likelihood these kinds of disgusting attacks are only the beginning. The good news is COURIER is ready to fight back. We’re not afraid to call out the disgusting bigotry we’re seeing from Donald Trump and the right. And we’re countering their false, destructive narratives with the truth in the spaces where it matters most – on social media feeds and in email inboxes. [But we need your help. We need to raise $25,000 this month to support our battleground newsrooms.
