Dobbs anniversary, abortion access, and what you can do to help Friend, Today is the second annivers

Dobbs anniversary, abortion access, and what you can do to help [Courier]( Friend, Today is the second anniversary of the right-wing Supreme Court’s decision to upend 50 years of legal precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade. For two years, COURIER’s network of local newsrooms has fearlessly covered the decision's awful impact on women and their families. Take a look: Women struggling to find basic reproductive health care. Doctors unable to do their jobs. Right-wing politicians at every level of government enacting dangerous restrictions on reproductive rights. These are the stories that matter right now, and we’re proud of our team for providing critical coverage during this perilous moment for women and their families. [We’ll talk more about where the fight to restore reproductive is going in a moment, but if you want to support COURIER’s diligent reporting on reproductive rights in battleground states across the country, can you chip in $20?]( When it comes to abortion, Republicans want to use a little-known and currently unenforced law – The Comstock Act – to make it illegal to ship “anything designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion” across state lines. The new interpretation of the law would criminalize shipping abortion medications and potentially medical equipment. Distressingly, it would also apply in states where abortion is legal and even constitutionally protected. So that’s the bad news. The good news? COURIER’s research-backed model can help stop it. In 2022, we ran an experiment in Michigan to measure how factual news stories about abortion rights could impact voting behavior on Michigan’s ballot initiative to enshrine reproductive rights into the state’s constitution. The results were promising to say the least: Michiganders were more likely to oppose abortion bans after reading reports from The Gander, our local Michigan newsroom. Friend, these results show the real impact our reporting can have on our elections. With so much at stake this year, we need to get our work in front of as many voters as possible. That’s where you come in. COURIER provides free, factual news on the issues that matter most, like the Republican fight to destroy reproductive rights post-Roe. We operate in eleven battleground states across the country, where our news will have the greatest impact. [We count on your support to keep providing this service for free.
