Let's get weird... WHERE MONEY FLOWS Money is a symbol of value. I give you this money because I (or a collective "I", aka society) value the thing you've created. There is inefficiency in this system and there are people who cheat or grift, etc. They take value for no value exchanged. There is also an inefficiency of thought. People aren't aligned with themselves or they're operating with a distracted and addicted mind. So we struggle properly value things or value the correct things -- unless we can't help it (discussed a little bit below). But you shouldn't concern yourself with the inefficiencies if you want to be happy. Marcus Auerelius asked himself 2000 years ago: "What should we value?". Here's his response: "I think it's this: to do (and not do) what we were designed for. That's the goal of all trades, all arts, and what each of them aims at: that the thing they create should do what is was designed to do." Aurelius said that we should value things (people included) that align with their true nature. And this "do what you're supposed to do" was things being done for the collective good because we're social creatures. So the money should flow to those who are doing what they're supposed to do because they're creating the most value for the collective good. A good example are artists and musicians. It's clear when there's an artist who is doing what they're designed to do. You can feel their "soul" working on your soul and money flows to them in exchange. WHAT SHOULD WE DO THEN? This doing what you're supposed to do is a "soul" thing. It's that drive or compulsion beyond the thinking brain, or the lizard brain if you'd prefer. Your "soul" is trying to figure out what it's supposed to do for the collective good. Your mind gets in the way of this "soul search". (Which is why soul work is so important. Soul work can be meditation, breathing, yoga, drugs.) I know I'm getting out there, but stick with me for this example. Say that you want to write. Have you ever had trouble finishing a piece? Your mind might cut you off once you've done 90% of the work because publishing something means you'll be judged. And your mind is afraid of that judgment. Fear is a lizard brain thing. Your soul isn't afraid of judgement. Your soul is trying to align with its greater purpose. There is always a place for the mind, but it's not here. Something deep inside you (I'm calling this your soul) can say to the lizard brain, "Hey, thanks for your concern that I'll be judged. You're trying to keep me safe from embarrassment. But sorry lizard brain, bro, I gotta fight through and finish this." You don't finish that writing project because your mind is afraid. And because of this your soul never gets to understand what your most valuable-to-the-greater-good path is. You never know if writing is the "good" you're put here for. If this is what you're designed to do. You never even get to see how much value you've produced in the form of money. And the money, btw is a "preferred indifferent" as the Stoics would say. It's great to have, but it's not the goal. It's about the soul work and your soul wants to do a good job. The soul does it for the soul (and hence the greater good). It doesn't care at the end of the day about the other neurotic lizard brains out there. It cares about the other souls underneath. Going even deeper... my thought is that true "enlightenment" comes from realizing that your true purpose will shift and morph and change. And that's okay. This is how it's supposed to be. Life is about pinging that soul as much as possible to see where it's at - "is this the path that's best for me & the world right now?" When that path signals to others that you're doing what you're supposed to do... the money will flow. But again, that's never the goal. Have a great weekend! - Derek "Deep in the weeds? [See for yourself here.]( ;-)   ☕ HOW TO MAKE COFFEE FOR COPYWRITING - Support your local roasters by buying a bag with a roast date on it. General advice that's not a rule: coffee typically tastes better if consumed within 5-10 days of its roast date. - Buy a grinder and grind the beans yourself right before you brew a cup. It only takes a few seconds. - Brew your coffee with a Chemex or Aeropress. Kuerig's suck at making coffee and they suck for the environment. - Water matters: You're not going to believe me until you try it - good filtered water will make your coffee taste better (and it might save your life). - Temperature matters too. I brew most cups at ~183 degrees. I use Ovalware's Pour Over Kettle. [Facebook](  [Twitter](  [Youtube]( Sent to: {EMAIL} [Unsubscribe]( CopyHour.com, 340 S LEMON AVE, 5007, WALNUT, CA 91789, USA
