Hey {NAME} -- Last night during a sauna session I started thinking about "my death". It sounds morbid or depressing but it's actually a mental exercise I've found very helpful. I'm mentally working out my life's biggest problem: my death. By thinking about the problem of death, and focusing on it, I'm gaining lots of insights and motivation. It's giving me more love, admiration, and gratitude for my family. The thought of never seeing my kids again instantly makes me more present and engaged with them. Thinking about death is making me take more action and write more (even if I haven't been publishing a ton, I'm cranking out the words these days). Understanding death means I value this life and each day more. It all sounds cliche probably... but have you spent any time at all working through what it will mean to die? What problems you focus on are important because "what gets measured gets managed." There are helpful things you should focus on in life and unhelpful things. Most folks don't take a second to stop to discern the difference. You can chose to focus on things that normally bring you positive results. You can stop focusing on things that don't. You have that power. And you can and should judge the focuses you have, try to measure their results, and get rid of the unhelpful ones. A focus on your eventual death is a good focus in my estimation. One way to figure out what to focus on (in any industry) is by figuring out what the biggest or most impactful problems there are to the solve. In every day life, death is the biggest problem. That's why religion is, like, a big deal. Religions have claimed to have figured out life's biggest problem. And they make a whole lot of money and have extreme power because of this assertion. I was thinking about copywriting, and the biggest problems and what are good things to focus on. What are the top things to focus on if you want to make more money as a copywriter? Think about the types of copy and what problems they solve. For example, what's the problem that email copy is solving? Email copy helps solve the problem of how to get qualified traffic to a website. Sales page copy is a bigger problem to solve: how to convert traffic to a sale. Naturally, this pays better. The bigger the problem you're solving (including scale), typically the more you make. And that's the take home of this little email on death, focus, and problem solving. Focus on solving big problems and you will be rewarded. Running away from big problems, like your death for example, is a missed opportunity. ++++ What are you waiting for?
