What The Algorithm Likes When people talk about appealing to social media algorithms, they usually mention likes. But likes are actually a low-weight type of engagement. Not all engagements are equal. That's especially true on certain platforms. X/Twitter is a great example. Algorithms also track profile clicks, replies, saves, and shares, and most platforms weigh those much higher than likes. Think about this when you create content. Don't just optimize for likes. Also try to inspire replies, profile clicks, saves, and shares. 2. Make Your Funnel Go Forward One thing my partner Charles did when you joined Copyblogger was make our emails more sales-heavy. They're not overly aggressive, but I used to point subscribers to popular blog posts and my social media pages after they confirmed their subscriptions. Now our funnels go forward. If someone subscribes to the newsletter, I'm not gonna send them back to the blog or back to a social media page. They've been there already. They can go back if they want to. After they get in, it's time to sell. I suggest that you do the same. 3. Skip Or Shorten The Intro I once talked to a speech coach. One of her top pieces of advice to speakers was to cut the introduction. She'd tell them, "Don't say who you are or what you do. Find the most interesting part of the speech, and start with that. The rest can come later." There's a parallel to this in content creation. On social media, it's usually best to make that introduction extremely short. On blogs, intros are better, but they should still be somewhat short. Don't spend too much time setting the stage. Get to the good part quickly. 4. Lesson From The Build We're currently building Copyblogger back up into a multi-million dollar brand. From now on, I'm gonna send you updates on that and give you tips I learn along the way. Here's the first: â That's the rise in email subscribers we got from our first few days of A/B testing our lead generation system. A new format + better copywriting doubled our subscribers per day overnight. I'll give you more actionable takeaways once we have more data, but for now, if you have traffic, do some A/B testing. You might start growing your business twice as fast with a few simple tweaks. - Tim P.S.
