pushing for strong rules to make sure you have the power and information to hang up on AI-generated

[Consumer Reports]   Dear Friend, We have real momentum in our efforts to crack down on robocalls and texts generated by artificial intelligence! Already, 30,000 people have [signed our petition to the FCC]( pushing for strong rules to make sure you have the power and information to hang up on AI-generated calls and text messages. Friend, can you help out on this effort by [adding your name]( and sharing our petition with others? The public comment period closes soon, so we want to make sure the FCC hears loud and clear that consumers want the necessary information to say NO to those calls and texts that have more risk of fraud, scams or misinformation.  [Sign the Petition »](   [Share on Facebook »](  Thanks for all you do! Angel HanConsumer Reports --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Friend, Artificial intelligence is quietly working its way into almost every facet of our lives, including one dark corner none of us want: robocalls. Scammers already have used AI to mimic voices of loved ones, work colleagues or politicians to persuade you to give up money, hand over sensitive information, or vote a certain way. And as the technology advances, fraudsters could use it to find new and clever ways to separate you from your money and personal data. A plan is on the table at the Federal Communications Commission to empower consumers to say NO to these AI-generated calls and text messages. And if enough of us speak out in support, we can get strong rules that will help everyone avoid calls designed to mislead or misinform us. [Sign our petition to the FCC for strong AI robocall rules!](  [Sign the Petition »](  While this new rule won't eliminate all AI robocalls, it would require callers to disclose that they are using AI-generated calls or texts when you pick up the phone or receive a text. By making it clear up front that the call is AI-generated, you’d have the power to hang up on those calls that have more risk of fraud, scams or misinformation. Already, both the FCC and Federal Trade Commission have cracked down on AI scams by making it illegal to use the technology to impersonate a business or government official, and soon, an individual like a family member. And they’ve handed out stiff fines to violators – a company that sent deceptive calls to New Hampshire voters using AI to mimic a politician’s voice just agreed to pay a $1 million penalty. Let’s make sure we get this critical rule in place so you have as much power as possible to avoid AI-generated calls you don’t want. [The FCC public comment period closes in a few weeks, so use your voice now for strong AI robocall rules.](  [Sign the Petition »](  With your help, Consumer Reports has led the way in recent years to crackdown on robocalls, and we appreciate you working with us again to tackle the new AI frontier of unwanted marketing calls. You can help make an even bigger impact by sharing this email with friends and family so they can join you in taking action.
