I remember, 23 years ago today, the devastation, the chaos, the powerlessness I felt â that we all felt together as the fragmented pieces of information reached us. I remember standing in the Baylor Student Center, gathered around a TV with my classmates. I had no idea what would come next or how we, as a nation, would recover. In the coming days, we saw a new generation of heroes come forward: the first responders, service people, and neighbors who didn't hesitate to sacrifice so much so that we could rebuild and recover. Because of them, we were able to slowly begin the process of healing and returning to some sense of normalcy. Twenty-three years later, I still carry the legacy of that day with me. I'm sure you do, too. That's why, in Congress, I've supported legislation to make sure 9/11 first responders have access to benefits, and I've worked continually to protect our national security and to ensure that our service members who stepped up after 9/11 can access the care and resources they deserve. And that's why I'll never stop fighting to protect our democracy from those who threaten it. We will never forget those who lost their lives 23 years ago, and today, my heart goes out to their families, friends, and loved ones. Sincerely,
