Work From Home Improves Productivity: These Operations Can Become Permanent WFH Jobs! With about 9 months into the Covid-19 induced pandemic, the ‘Work from Home’ model has become a flavour of the season. We have constantly brought in reports to you reflecting the mindsets of the working class working from home. Late last month, we published a survey report, which stated that about 54% Indian professionals are enjoying the idea of working from home, so much so that 34% of them are willing to take a salary cut of 10% to continue working this way indefinitely. Newer reports fleeing in now, suggest that the ‘Work from home’ model could permanently replace the initial practice of coming to office for some job profiles, where location constraint is not a problem. Executives at leading companies believe that work from home has improved productivity during the ongoing pandemic. WFH Bringing in Flexibility Laxman Narasimhan, the global chief executive at Reckitt Benckiser stated at the CII-FMCG Summit on Wednesday, “Remote working is shaping up well and has brought many people into the workforce who were earlier hampered by personal commitments. People don’t have to travel for hours every day and there is lots of flexibility.” Additionally, we have already reported that on average, working professionals in India spend upto 2 hours a day commuting. Trading off 10% of one’s earnings to free up 480 hours, or 20 days, every year is a steal. 81% of 740 respondents with more than 90 minutes of one-way commute to the office would love to permanently work from home. ‘9-5’ Working Hours a Thing of Past Varun Berry, MD Britannia Industries quotes, “The 9 am-to-5 pm working hours are a thing of the past. At some stage, working from the office may come back, but it still may not be what it used to be.” Reckitt Benckiser and Britannia, both have logged record sales during the pandemic this year and returned to 100% production capacity a month after the nationwide lockdown was implemented. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, Coca-Cola India’s largest bottling partner with 6,500 direct employees, had allowed a significant chunk of its workforce to permanently work from home. The option is available to employees who need not be physically present at factories or sales locations. IT companies Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro have said they will let the majority of their employees continue to work from home till March. --
