CNET went to South Korea to find out.CNET went to South Korea to find out. [CNET]( Insider [August 24, 2023](#?ftag=CAD-04-10aac3a&utm_email=9ec2e0353644c03ce56099bfb161a49d1f8a5a22f0d884f0cd961b89d205d529&utm_campaign_id=7570902&utm_email_id=27e10c2cd62261892a29a95961ef9cfe4c4e2cad1da4557c272c445cc80037ac&utm_newsletter_id=71558&medium=email&source=iterable) [Foldable Phones Are Just Getting Started]( Most of you already know that I think [foldable phones]( are the future of mobile technology. Could it be that trends in phones, like in fashion, are cyclical? It wasn't too long ago that flip phones were the biggest "it" accessory, right up there with Britney Spears–inspired baby tees and choker necklaces. It just so happens that everything from the '90s is popular once again — including chokers — so flip phones should make a comeback too, right? And sure enough, here they are. Thankfully, modern flip phones are far more capable than your late-'90s Motorolas. Today's iterations come in many different sizes and styles, with [dual screens]( you can use to run apps and to go online. There are some that fold out into a larger, tablet-size screen and others that turn a traditionally sized smartphone into a smaller device that fits in your pocket. I find them appealing because they feel truly innovative. Manufacturers are creating a completely new product by reinventing a classic design, and it feels like a breath of fresh air in a segment that's gotten stale and boring. But is this just me, or do other people feel this way, too? CNET's Lisa Eadicicco flew to South Korea to find out if [foldable phones are the future](. Spoiler alert: They are. So pull on your baggy jeans, pick out your baby tee of choice and don't forget to put on your favorite choker — flip phones are back. You can read all about South Korea's foldable-phone craze, plus check out more news and reviews, in today's newsletter. — Sarah Lord, writer INSIDER ESSENTIALS display:%20block;%20max-width:%20116px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; display:%20block;%20max-width:%2069px;%20%20max-height:%2015px; [Are Foldables the Future of Phones?
