We Put Flagship Camera Phones to the Test

My CNET colleague Andrew Lanxon has compared two of the best camera phones available in the US: the [iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL](. He's taken a series of shots and found that he prefers one phone over the other. I don't have the iPhone 16, but I do have the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Here's what I've found. First, the Pixel's zoom is really good. In fact, it's better than any I've ever used on a phone. I went to a bunch of concerts last month and was able to take low-light pics that came out clear and sharp. On the other hand, I've taken mediocre pictures of the moon since I've had cameras in my hand, and I can't say that the Pixel has given me better results. Sure, the pictures I took with the Pixel show a little more detail on the surface, but there's a halo, or doubling, around the moon in all of the shots. That may mean I need to [brush up on my skills taking moon photos](.
