Milk Road, a newsletter for cryptocurrency, sold for $10M after only 10 months of being launched. Newsletters are worth a small fortune to big name brands because they allow these brands to bypass paying advertising platforms and own the list themselves. If you don’t like selling people, your newsletter can be 100% pure value and can be sold a few years down the line. However, if you do want to make money on yours, here are 3 options: 1. You can add a paid ad to your newsletter The average CPM (cost per thousand) of a newsletter right now is $15-30. If you have an email with a list of 100,000 people, you can earn $3,000 just from sending an email that you don’t have to sell anything in. You don’t even have to sell the advertising. There are platforms that sell it for you. 2. Sell products and achieve a much higher conversion rate Perry had a tripwire that led to a $300 offer. The conversion of cold traffic to the offer was 1.2% After 3 days of them receiving newsletter content, the conversion rate went to 7.8% to those leads. That’s a 651% conversion increase! Remember, you don’t have to have a product of your own, you could sell affiliate products. 3. Have a premium subscription option According to SubStack, even if your offer isn’t great, around 5% of subscribers will join your premium subscription at $5-10 per month. This premium subscription could just be one extra email per week. If you have 5000 people join a premium list, that’s an extra $25,000 per month. At this stage a newsletter is a must, right?
