Alex In My Inbox is a weekly copywriting series where I share interesting, actionable, and hilarious copywriting tips from "Alex". Alex is an anonymous copywriter who shares these tips with me so I can share them with you.  Today, Alex has an email about how two experiences trying to buy the same product taught him about the one skill that everyone needs to have.  Let’s check it out.  But first...  I wanted to make sure you knew about my [weekly podcast]( with Cardinal Mason:  This week, the boys play a game in which Chase is presented with five business models and must rank them from best to worst.  The catch?  He has no idea what the five business models are, or which one is coming next.  As the game progresses, they discuss the pros and cons of each option, including what types of people might be a better fit for one option over another.  Go listen to:  [Blind Ranking The Best and Worst Business Models](   And special thanks to [James Sowers]( for editing this video and setting us up with intro/outro music and proper show notes/descriptions.  Now let's dive into today's edition 👇   Dear Chase, Quick one. If you saw my IG story yesterday, I was looking at cars. Been thinking about buying something really nice for months now and I’m finally doing it. I went and looked at 2 yesterday. Car 1 was from this family-owned dealership. The two salespeople were an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old. Both the sons of the owner. Both awkward asf. Car 2 was at an actual dealership of the brand. I probably shouldn’t say what the brand is, but it’s very premium. The salesperson there was this New York Jewish guy who was an absolute savage. We got along great. I test-drove Car 2 first, from the actual dealership. While we were in the car, the salesperson told me everything about the car, was selling on the drive, and was talking about how great of a car it is compared to whatever else. Car 1 was $50k cheaper. So, I was leaning more towards getting that one. I test-drove Car 1, and the 21-year-old salesperson sat in the passenger seat, didn't say a word to me, and was literally scrolling IG through the entire test drive. As soon as I got done with that test drive, I called Car 2 guy and told him this: "Your car is $50k more expensive, but I'm gonna take that one because I refuse to reward shitty salespeople. And you're the goat. So let's draft up the paperwork." Car 1 lost the easiest sale of their life because their salespeople don't care AT ALL. The guy didn't care to know anything about me, never asked what I do for a living (to be able to afford a $450k car), didn't know anything about the vehicle, and was just an amateur in every sense. Car 2 got the sale because he spent 90 minutes either actually caring or pretending to care about me and my business. Whether it was real or not, I don't care. He did what he had to do for a short period of time and displayed competence. Lesson of the day: You can beat out pretty much everyone else just by GENUINELY caring about your prospects. If you're doing outreach, and your messaging comes across in a way that makes it sound like you genuinely care about helping someone out, you're going to win. At the end of the day, people just wanna be prioritized. It doesn't matter how rich or successful the person you're selling to is, they want you to care about how you're going to deliver your services, how fast you reply, and how deep you dig into their life. This is not a skill you need to go to school for, or take a course to learn. This is just something that everyone should inherently have, but very few people exercise it. Not having it can cost you millions of dollars over your career, just like this guy. You feel me?
