Live on Purpose.  Oftenâtoo often, perhapsâwe live our lives getting byâ¦doing things out of habitâ¦going through the motionsâ¦putting out one fire after anotherâ¦trying to keep our heads above waterâ¦trying to make ends meetâ¦watching life pass us by⦠This is the human condition, and while there is beauty in it, you have to ask yourself: What would it be like to live with purposeâ¦with meaningâ¦with intention? Of course, the purpose of our lives isnât always obvious or inherent. We may have to find or create it. So, how do we figure out that purpose? - Start by asking some questions that open you to thinking about what is meaningful to you. This is called inquiry, and weâll discuss it more below.
- Start listening. This can be tricky for many people because it often requires silence and solitude, things that you may not be comfortable with.
- Take action to get clarity. Too often, folks make the mistake of thinking they need clarity before they can take action, but it actually works the other way around. Action creates clarity. Creating, discovering and defining your purpose is an ongoing processâone that may never end. So, like a sculpture, keep the process of refining going. Thereâs no rightâor wrongâway to do the process of inquiry, except to turn toward the questions and possibilities. Some guiding questions in the process: - Who has helped make your work feel more meaningful?
- Who are the people that you are most moved to help?
- What experiences have you gone through that âpre-qualifyâ you to help others? In other words, how can your life experiences be leveraged to help others?
- What have you done in your life that has felt meaningful to you?
- What types of books, movies, courses, etc., have you found that really speak to you?
- Who has inspired you the most? Who do you feel like youâve inspired the most?
- Where do you feel like your talents flow most naturally? These, of course, are just âconversation starterâ questions that open you to feeling meaning and new ways of seeing things. After you ask these questions, spend time in silence and listen. Make notes. Listen some more. Talk to yourself, God or the universe. Then listen. Then, take action. Remember, action breeds clarity. Start byâ¦helping one personâ¦then anotherâ¦and another. Write about what you learned about yourself and the process. Create something for someone. Share that creation with others. Be a part of something. Start something new. Every day, ask what one thing you could do to live your purpose out. Eventually, you will begin to have a bigger and bigger vision for what you can do with this purpose. Now bring that vision into your daily life. Do everything you can to the best of your ability. This doesnât mean exhausting yourself. Rather, it means doing each thing with intention, care and purpose (rather than going through the motions as many of us are prone to do). We sent the following email out this past week, since then we have received tremendous feedback... here it is again in case you missed it. It's a good one!  FW: Here's Today's Tip... It is our core belief that you have the power to #changethatup when weâre stuck in rut. You can do this by using our powerful daily insights delivered to your inbox. We all grew up on the typical standard American diet. We followed the patterns and behaviors that we learned from everyone around us. When we all first started growing up and becoming adults, we started living a work life behind the desk. We got busy with life. We almost all fell out of any good habits that we had while growing up (this almost always happened unless you grew up in a home that taught good nutrition and healthy habits). As any adult in their 40s and 50s can relate, you feel a great amount of joy when you see your healthy habits create a life of freedom and happiness.
