Set in the 90s, this book tells the harrowing true story of Sarah's abduction and trafficking to Amsterdam's infamous Red Light District. It's a tough listen, diving deep into the brutal realities of sex trafficking. Sarah's narration is raw and self-reflective, giving you a deep understanding of the psychological trauma she endured. This book is pretty disturbing yet crucial for shedding light on the horrific crime of sex trafficking. Walking through Amsterdamâs Red Light District recently, Sarah's story was constantly on my mind. The area is filled with beautiful old buildings where women stand in windows, often looking lifeless. Most visitors are there to gawk rather than engage, turning these women into a spectacle. While Amsterdam's regulation of sex work may offer some safety, the scene is heartbreaking. Many women, like Sarah, are there not by choice but because of coercion and trafficking. I couldnât get her story out of my mind because it highlighted the desperate need for empathy and understanding of the complex issues surrounding sex work and trafficking.
