May 30, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! From its history to the chemical processes that go into making it, there’s very little I don’t find fascinating about vinegar. But you don’t need to find it fascinating to find it useful, and in Today’s Good Thing, you’ll learn 9 of the most useful things you can do with vinegar around the house. The latest Monday Motivation was partly inspired by a saying that's both funny and true: "Don't be afraid to be open-minded. Your brain isn't going to fall out." Keeping an open mind can enhance both your own life and the lives of others. Jillee P.S. Happy Memorial Day! If you have the day off, I hope you enjoy every minute of it. TODAY'S GOOD THING 9 Genius Uses For Ordinary Household Vinegar [Photos of various uses for white vinegar.]( Harness the power of distilled white vinegar with these 9 practical household uses. Vinegar isn't just one of the most versatile substances in our homes today—it has borne that title for thousands of years. Some of the earliest mentions of vinegar come from Babylonian records dating back to 5,000 BC. The fact that it's still a fixture in our lives after 7,000 years is pretty cool if you ask me! While vinegar is great for making pickles and salad dressings, some of my favorite ways to use it have nothing to do with food. Distilled white vinegar cuts through grime with ease, eliminates unpleasant odors, and is inexpensive to boot! I could go on and on about everything you can do with vinegar, but we’d be here all day if I did. So I thought I’d save us some time by sharing a selection of my all-time favorite household uses for vinegar. They run the gamut from cleaning hacks to beauty tips and everything in between. You’ll find my list of 9 practical household uses for vinegar at the link below. Check it out and discover some of the many reasons why it’s still such a staple in our lives thousands of years later! Mismatched Containers. Keeping food containers organized is hard enough without a bunch of containers with missing lids (or vice versa!) Go through your collection and get rid of anything broken or damaged, then match the lids and containers. If there’s anything that isn’t part of a matched set, get rid of it too. 2. Neglected Gadgets. Ever bought a kitchen gadget you thought would be a game-changer, only to realize it wasn’t very helpful? That’s a trick question, because I’m willing to bet we’ve all done that. Toss those neglected gadgets in a donation box, or seek out a buyer online who’s willing to give it a new home. 3. Chipped Dishes. If you have any chipped ceramic cups or plates, now may be a good time to part with them. It isn’t just about presentation or aesthetics either—chipped ceramics have their porous interior exposed, which could invite germs and bacteria to work their way into your dishes. STAY SAFE OUT THERE "Free Cruises" Are Anything But Smooth Sailing [A photo of a cruise ship.]( If someone offers you a free cruise, don't forget what Dad used to say about free lunches. The idea of kicking back on a cruise ship for several days can sound like a dream, especially if that cruise is supposedly “free.” But if you read this segment regularly, you know the rule—if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and that’s often the case with free cruises. There are a few different schemes that feature free cruises, but they all generally start with a phone call or email that says you’ve won a free cruise (perhaps as a sweepstakes prize, a special travel offer, or for taking a survey). Unfortunately, that offer is likely part of one of these common cruise cons: • The cruise is not real, and the offer is a ploy to get personal information from you to sell to marketers or to steal your identity. • The cruise is real, but there are all sorts of fees, taxes, upgrades, and gratuities attached. You could end up paying more for this “free cruise” than if you’d booked it through the cruise line. • The cruise is real, but requires you to sit through a lengthy timeshare sales pitch first, and possibly pay for "trip upgrades" to get basic amenities like air conditioning. We all need a break from time to time, so it’s understandable to be enticed by a free vacation. But unless you're prepared to deal with these headache-inducing outcomes, you’re better off cruising past any free cruise offers that come your way. MONDAY MOTIVATION Keep An Open Mind "Don't be afraid to be open-minded. Your brain isn't going to fall out." Most of us already have a strong set of beliefs and values, and we tend to surround ourselves with like-minded people. This can make it uncomfortable or even painful to encounter ideas that challenge our own, but we're doing ourselves a disservice if we shut them out completely. Having an open mind doesn't mean you have to change who you are, nor does it mean you have to change your beliefs. All it really means is being receptive to things that are new or unfamiliar to you, whether they’re ideas, practices, or experiences. One good reason to be open-minded is that being more tolerant and accepting of others can help make the world a kinder place. Additionally, being open to new ideas can feel very freeing when you’re used to feeling pressured to have all the answers. If you’re not willing to try, learn, or experience new things, you could be missing out on something amazing, and you're sure to miss out on opportunities to learn more about yourself. If we can only focus more on doing right than being right, we can start to appreciate the endless variety that life has to offer. A FEW MORE THINGS... Honoring The Fallen: Today is Memorial Day here in the US, when we honor the soldiers who lost their lives in service to our country. The earliest iteration of Memorial Day emerged after the Civil War, and was consistently observed on May 30 until the Uniform Holiday Act of 1971, which moved it to the last Monday in May to establish the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Connection Is Key: Today is also World MS Day, a campaign to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS) and the 2.8 million people living with the disease worldwide. As a disease of the nervous system, MS can cause extreme fatigue, weakness, and other "invisible" symptoms. To participate, share your MS connections on social media with #MSConnections and #WorldMSDay. 🤔 Wordle: [Solve today's 5-letter word](. What did you think of today's email?
