[View this email in your browser]( [BrooklynVegan Weekly]( Memorial Day Weekend is upon us! Maybe you're spending it at a music festival - [Boston Calling]( [Sasquatch]( and [Maryland Deathfest]( are all happening this weekend, as is All Points East (which has a totally insane lineup, but is also in London, so maybe a bit far for a weekend trip). If you're in town for the weekend, we have a [guide to concerts, comedy, dance parties, and other events happening this weekend](. Don't forget you can also always [check out tonight's live shows]( (updated each and every day along with our year-round show calendar). [The Original Misfits return]( The Original Misfits (aka Glenn Danzig, Doyle Von Frankenstein, and Jerry Only, rounded out by Dave Lombardo on drums and rhythm guitarist Acey Slade) reunited for their first home-state show since 1983 at a hotly anticipated, hotly debated throwndown at Newark's Prudential Center on Saturday (5/20) with Harley Flanagan of Cro-Mags, Murphy's Law, and Suicidal Tendencies. [Read our review]( and [check out pictures of the pre-show scene]( at Prudential. Are Misfits the best hardcore band from New Jersey? What about the other 49 states - [are these the best hardcore bands of every US state]( [Festival of Disruption in NYC]( Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at the Festival of Disruption kickoff party, where this amazing photo op with David Lynch, James Murphy, Debbie Harry, and Dana Ashbrook took place! We did attend the festival itself, in its first NYC edition at Brooklyn Steel, which featured performances from Jim James, Angel Olsen (separately as well as together), Animal Collective, Flying Lotus, and more, along with talks from Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rosselli, and Lynch himself, among others. [Check out our pictures and recap]( Speaking of David Lynch, Twin Peaks: The Return came out just over a year ago, and if you'd like to watch it as a single film (as Lynch intended), you can do that on an [upcoming Showtime marathon]( of the series. You can also listen to Johnny Jewel of Chromatics' surprise new double album, [Themes for Televsion]( which includes alternate takes on Twin Peaks music, as well as music inspired by the series. As for Chromatics, their long-in-the-works album Dear Tommy may finally get released this fall, or so the band says. [Watch the recent video for "Black Walls"]( now. [The Longshot in NYC]( Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day has a new band called The Longshot, and they played their first two of three very intimate NYC shows last week. Along with material from their debut album, [Love is for Losers]( the band broke out a bunch of covers, including The Rolling Stones, The Replacements, David Bowie, Ramones, and, yes, even Green Day. Watch video from [night one]( and [night two](. In Nashville, Margo Price did a run of three shows at Ryman Auditorium this week, where she had some very special guests on hand: Jack White, Sturgill Simpson and Emmylou Harris all joined Margo on stage. You can watch video from the [first, second]( and [third]( nights. [MoMA PS1 Warm Ups]( Warm Ups return to MoMA PS1 on Saturdays this summer, and [this year's lineup of performers]( is stacked: it includes A-Trak, Gang Gang Dance, SOB x RBE, Lizzo, Maxo Kream, and lots more. On the festival front, [All My Friends]( released their inaugural lineup in LA, while [Le Guess Who?]( brings a unique festival experience to Utretcht in November. [Pop Montreal]( announced their initial lineup for 2018, and hardcore fest [Back to School Jam]( comes to Jersey City in September. Florence + The Machine followed their [performance on The Voice]( with a [teaser for the High As Hope tour]( - stay tuned for more on that! Other tours announced this week include [Municipal Waste]( and [John Vanderslice](. Keep up with the latest with our daily [tour posts](. Melvins are on the road in support of their new album [Pinkus Abortion Technician]( and they're taking us along for the ride with [weekly tour diaries](. Check out [this week's]( for dispatches from their tour with two bassists: Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers) and Steve McDonald (Redd Kross) [new song from Sleep]( Sleep recently released their [first album in over 15 years]( and now there's even more new music from the band. "Leagues Beneath" is nearly 16 glorious minutes of sludge, and you can [listen to it now](. Oh Sees shared the [ripping first single]( from their new album Smote Reverser, which also has some pretty sick cover art. The Get Up Kids' first release in seven years is due in June, and they've shared another song from it, ["Better This Way."]( Pusha T released his new Kanye West-produced album [Daytona]( on Friday, the same day A$AP Rocky dropped his guest-filled latest, Testing. Frank Ocean, T.I., Dev Hynes, FKA Twigs, Kid Cudi, Skepta, and more appear on the album, which you can [stream now](. Check out this week's [Five Notable Releases]( for reviews & streams of more albums released this week, including Sudan Archives, Dear Nora, Wooden Shjips, and more. For even more new music, this week's [Bill's Indie Basement]( covers yet another sequel to the classic C-86 comp, the lush ’80s moods of Arp, Smokescreens, featuring Corey from Terry Malts, and more. [Win Tickets to NYC shows]( Who likes free concert tickets? [Win your way into a bunch of different NYC shows]( through our currently running [contests]( which include [Courtney Barnett]( Belle & Sebastian, Arctic Monkeys, David Byrne, The National presents: There's No Leaving New York, Governors Ball, Nick Cave, The Magnetic Fields' '50 Song Memoir,' and more! Last but not least, pour one out for Interview Magazine, which is [shutting down]( after being founded by Andy Warhol in 1969. [Invisible Oranges patreon]( Help our sister metal site [Invisible Oranges]( continue to write about heavy music and [become a patron](. We posted about lots more this week, too - visit [BrooklynVegan.com]( for all this and more.
