PLUS: Legal VICTORY & how to protect your family this holiday season I have something Iâd like to share with you, friend. Today in America, weâre facing the public health crisis of our lifetime: Guns are the leading cause of death for children, there have been more mass shootings than days in the year, and the deadliest form of gun violence â firearm suicide â has hit record highs. [But through it all, I maintain hope because I believe in Bradyâs evidence-based solutions.]( Since Jim and Sarah Brady, our fearless namesakes, weâve never shied away from tackling this crisis head-on. We passed the landmark Brady Bill, establishing our nationâs background check system, banned assault weapons in 1994, and, just last year, ended a 30-year hiatus on federal gun safety legislation. Weâll never stop fighting to strengthen our nationâs gun laws. But we also know that laws alone are not enough. Thatâs why Brady follows the same roadmap used by successful movements to curb smoking, promote seatbelt use, and prevent drunk driving: 1) change the laws; 2) change the industry; 3) and change the culture. This approach has proven successful in curbing public health epidemics, and we know it can have the same impact on Americaâs gun violence crisis. Thatâs what we call the âBrady differenceâ â combining our legacy of policy change with our research-based industry oversight and behavior change campaigns. And evidence shows weâre saving lives. [Please take a moment to watch this video about the âBrady differenceâ and share it with your friends and family.]( [SHARE ON

Brady President Brady Secures Over $2 Million Settlement on Behalf of Victimsâ Families Against One of Nationâs Largest Gun Dealers âThis settlement sends a clear message to members of the gun industry that if they choose to participate in negligent and unlawful business practices, they will be held accountable.â â [Brady Senior Counsel and Director of Litigation Erin Davis]( Last week, with the support of Bradyâs legal team, the family members of Charles David Carver, Johnny Coxie, and Meagan Leigh Coxie [reached a settlement]( of more than $2.4 million against Academy Sports + Outdoors, one of the nationâs largest gun dealers. In 2016, Charles, Johnny, and Meagan were found shot and killed on the property of a now-convicted serial killer. The killer, who was legally prohibited from buying a firearm, used a firearm that was sold by Academy Sports + Outdoors in an illegal straw purchase. We uncovered that Academy Sports + Outdoors sold a dozen firearms in ten different transactions to a straw purchaser, who then supplied the gunman with the murder weapon. Had Academy Sports + Outdoors acted responsibly, Charles, Johnny, and Meagan may still be alive today. [While we cannot bring them back, we at Brady are proud to have represented their families and to work toward ensuring no other family suffers in this way. Please join us in learning more about Brady Legal and our life-saving efforts to reform negligent gun dealers and represent families and victims impacted by gun violence.]( [LEARN MORE ]( The Holidays Are Upon Us: Hereâs How You Can Prevent âFamily Fireâ Nearly 4.6 million children in America live in homes with access to an unlocked or unsupervised gun. And every day, eight children and teens are unintentionally injured or killed as a result of family fire, which is a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun in the home that results in death or injury. As the holiday season continues and homes begin to fill with family and friends, itâs important to keep our loved ones safe, and that includes practicing safe firearm storage â which means storing firearms locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition. [Whether or not you own guns, you can play a critical role in helping end family fire. This past summer, the Biden-Harris administration announced a federal rule that aims to clarify the definition of being âengaged in the businessâ of selling firearms. This may sound like a minor detail, but the change would require more gun dealers to become licensed, and conduct Brady Background Checks, closing deadly loopholes in the current background check system. [The comment period just closed, and our tireless advocacy contributed to more than 274,000 total comments submitted in favor of the rule, outpacing the NRA and its allies. We couldnât have done it without you and our partners, so thank you!
