This year I started doing something new in my business. I’ll admit that I was definitely reluctant about it at first. Because it isn’t something that can “scale”. And it many ways it puts me as a bottleneck in the business (which I’m always telling folks not to do.) But I went for it anyway as an opportunity to learn, grow, and build something new. What have I been doing? I’ve been offering one-on-one coaching and discovery calls with small business owners who are considering joining [Focus Like a Boss](. And get this… What’s amazing, is how much I have loved these calls. What I discovered is that I get a front-row seat to learn about the challenges, frustrations, and concerns they have. We talk about why they’re feeling stuck in their business and why they’re schedule feels overwhelming. I also get to hear all about their goals and what they want to accomplish in their life and business. And then! This is where the fun begins… I get to work with them, hands-on, for about a month as we work together to get clear on their goals and put the systems in place so they can run their business on a part-time schedule. And during that month I get to watch them get clear on the problems they’re facing, put together an action plan for how to solve those problems, and remove the things from their calendar that have been slowing them down. In other words, I get a front row seat to watch them change their mindset and start seeing themselves as a business owner (vs just someone who owns a very demanding job). Then! At the end of the month, we’ll do a final one-on-one success call. This is where I get to connect with them to make sure everything is clear for them and that they’re on the right path forward and have everything they need. Can you imagine the change I see between our first call and that last one? Again, I get this front-row seat to witness a huge transformation from who they were before they started and who they became by the end. Earlier this spring, one woman was so overwhelmed in her business she spent most of our first call crying. But then, on our final call? She spent most of it laughing! She had made some huge changes in her business that gave her back a ton of time and eliminated a ton of stress. And her business plan had become so clear and simple, she was already making progress with her team, her own schedule, and even her marriage! I realize this may come across as a bit “humble braggy”, but I am genuine when I say what an honor it has been to work with these founders and see the difference it’s making in their lives. They say that to grow your business, sometimes you need to do things that don’t scale. What I didn’t expect was that, in this case, doing the things that don’t scale would also be so enjoyable and rewarding. — Shawn P.S.
