As of today, I’m kicking off my summer sabbatical. (I wrote this email last week and scheduled it to be sent out today.) This is roughly my 60th [sabbatical break since we began doing this structure in 2017](. I can’t imagine doing things differently at this point. And it always reminds me the funny thing about running your own business… In many ways, you get to do whatever you want. You’re the boss, you make the rules, you set the culture. Yet, for most business owners, their boss is an absolute jerk. (IYKYK). When you have a culture of margin for yourself and your work, everything changes for the better. Once you prioritize margin, you also find that you have to to prioritize focused work. Meaning: a company that values breathing room is also a company that’s willing to do the hard work of getting clear and ruthlessly eliminating busywork. If you’ve been in business longer than a few months, you already probably know that there is no point where you can just “set it and forget it”. Your business is constantly evolving, re-inventing itself, finding new customers, etc. Which is why having margin in your business is a [massive competitive advantage](. Margin gives you the freedom and the focus to grow your business without burning yourself out. You may have heard me tell the story before of how, at my previous job, I was regularly working 70+ hours each week. When my wife and I got pregnant, I wanted to be more flexible and have more time off from work. So I began working for myself, but — surprise! — I brought my broken work habits with me and continued to work long hours, evenings, weekends. A few years later, I was on the verge of burnout. So I hired my first full-time employee, and — surprise again! — I still had the same challenges about working too much. (Turns out I was the common denominator.) It wasn’t until 2017 that everything began to change. That’s when I finally took the principles of living a focused life and began to apply them to my businesses. And, a few years ago, when I began teaching other business owners the same things… wow. Things changed for them as well…    I’ve now had 48 people go through Focus Like a Boss — our VIP program that helps you run your business on a part-time schedule. If you’re interested in joining the next group, let me know. Hit reply and let’s have a chat. — Shawn P.S. As I mentioned, I am on break this week, but I have set aside some time to get back to your email later this week (or early next). Thanks! To unsubscribe, click [here](.
