Wellness tips from your BioTRUST coaches. [Image of Coach Tim] Hey there! The sun’s out, the water’s perfect, and it’s a great time to hit the pool to cool off. You might not think of swimming to boost health. After all, it’s so fun and refreshing. But you may be surprised at just how much this enjoyable activity can help tone the entire body. Big Benefits Of Swimming Because our bodies tend to float when we’re in the water, it’s a wonderful medium for gentle exercise. The support from the water takes pressure off joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. You’re not forced to hold your body upright or stand on injured areas. The water supports you and, at the same time, allows you to move through resistance in any direction. There are a lot of studies that tout the many benefits of swimming. From cardiovascular benefits to muscle strength and fat loss, swimming for fitness is one of the best exercise choices you can make to: 1. Strengthen your heart and lungs 2. Work around joint issues and other injuries 3. Improve your circulation 4. Burn tons of calories 5. Strengthen muscles 6. Boost the immune system 7. Have fun in the sun! Swim To Tone Up Swimming is also a great activity to add to your fitness routine. Before you dive into the deep end, though, remember to always start slowly (as with any new exercise). If you’re not acclimated to tough workouts, you might need to start in the shallow end or brace yourself against the wall of the pool. As you get stronger (or if you’re already there), you can make your workouts tougher by using [pool equipment]( like a kickboard, waterproof weights, and hand paddles. Even if you aren’t the best swimmer, you can still have fun getting fit in the water with a few basic moves, such as: - Poolside Pushups - Flutter Kicks - Or Simply Walking In Water Here are some other great moves to get a great [Full-Body Workout!]( With all the improvements to your heart, your muscle strength, and your body composition, swimming doesn’t just help you cool off; it helps you tone up and get fit. But it’s not the only activity to help you beat the heat and still get your workouts in. Check out some of my other favorite [Workouts to Beat the Heat.]( Until next time, stay cool!
