I have some legen-dairy news you’ll want to hear The sun is shining… School is out… You know what that means, {NAME}… Summer is upon us. 😎 And nothing screams ‘summer’ quite like ice cream. Now, I talk a lot about the dangers of sugar when it comes to your skin… So you already know sugar can majorly enhance the appearance of wrinkles, jowls, and dullness… And can make you look older than you really are. Which is why you'll probably be shocked when I tell you: Ice cream can actually help you look YOUNGER — thanks to its metabolism-boosting benefits! Of course, I’m not talking about the traditional ice cream you can buy in the grocery store or from a truck… But the kind you can make right at home. So today, I'm sharing a tasty recipe my family makes every year. It's not just delicious, refreshing, and perfect for summer... It's incredible for your skin, too! We call it “Nice Cream” — and it’s ALWAYS a huge hit. If you want to give it a try, here’s what you need: → 2 cups frozen raspberries → 2 frozen bananas (slice them before freezing) → 1 cup vanilla almond milk → 1 cup Greek yogurt → 2 tbsp honey → 1 tsp vanilla extract → Dash of cinnamon (optional) Luckily, “Nice Cream” is super easy to make. All you have to do is: 💠Add raspberries, bananas, and almond milk into a blender or food processor. 💠Blend for about 3-5 mins until smooth. (TIP: Avoid over-blending your ice cream — the blender will heat up and melt your mixture!) 💠Add your yogurt, honey, vanilla, and cinnamon. 💠Blend again for 1 minute. 💠Pour into a medium container and place in a freezer. 💠Freeze the mixture for 3-5 hours. 💠Before serving, let soften on a counter for 30 minutes. (Because this is so low fat, it may take a little longer to soften than regular ice cream.) Simple enough, right? But what does this have to do with youthful-looking skin? Well, it centers around something called the glycemic index (GI). This scale tells us how rapidly a particular food will spike our blood sugar. This is crucial for youthful-looking skin… Because when our blood sugar spikes, those sugar molecules can bond with proteins, fats, or DNA — a process called glycation1 — which can contribute to: 📛Wrinkles 📛Saggy skin + jowls 📛Droopy energy levels 📛Dullness Not only that, but high-GI foods can slow your metabolism and prevent your body from burning fat, making it harder to lose weight. Well, it turns out… Some studies suggest ice cream, especially low-fat versions, may not hike it as much as we thought…meaning it’s relatively LOW on the glycemic index scale.2 Of course, this doesn’t mean you should eat a gallon of ice cream every night… It's all about treating yourself every once in a while. Aim for half a cup per serving. And if you really want to give your skin a youthful boost… My “Nice Cream” contains a lot less sugar AND fat than regular ice cream… So you get a sweet treat that nourishes your body, without the guilt or worry. Because grocery store flavors like Cookies n’ Cream and Bubble Gum are usually LOADED with harmful additives and chemicals… AND a higher glycemic index, which can cause blood sugar spikes that attack your skin and lead to more pronounced signs of age. That’s why I recommend sticking with the classics — vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry — which tend to have fewer additives... And therefore a lower glycemic index, to help your skin look its best. But for an even better way to get your ice cream fix, “Nice Cream” is the way to go. So be sure to give my recipe a whirl, {NAME}. I hope you love it as much as we do. :) Bon appétit! Your Beverly Hills MD, Dr. John Layke P.S. If you’re like me and always on the go, here’s a little trick: You can meal prep “Nice Cream” in a few easy steps. 1️⃣ Double the ingredients for a bigger batch 2️⃣ Pour the mixture into several smaller cups 3️⃣ Stock the cups in the freezer 4️⃣ Thaw out individual cups whenever you need a sweet treat. The kids and I love to customize our cups with our favorite toppings. I like to sprinkle granola on mine for a little crunch. Crushed nuts, berries, and coconut flakes are other great options. And I know firsthand how easy it is to go overboard when scooping ice cream, so portion control is another bonus. This way, you can enjoy a perfectly-portioned treat whenever you want without the hassle of dirty dishes.   Sources: 1. Kim, C.-S., Park, S., & Kim, J. (2017, September 30).
