To get in the gruesome mood of Halloween: There’s a philosophy I promote in everything from emails and sales copy…. to books and audio/video courses… to web design, opt-in page design, and offer design… to even fiction, and, if I made movies (I don’t, yet...) movie-making, broadcasting, and the list goes on… that absolutely horrifies those who teach giving a “greased shoot” experience when reading, listening to, viewing, or consuming content. I purposely go the opposite in a lot of cases. And, I ain’t alone. I can rattle off all kinds of enormously successful businesses that take my same attitude. Like for example: * Drudge Report * Reddit * The late Jim Straw * Christian Loubiton (high-end prestigious shoemaker to celebrities) * Comicbook artists like the infamous Rob Liefeld * The late special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen (whose altar Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Spielberg, and a host of other special effects guys STILL bow at today) * The guys who made The Blair Witch Project movie * And many, many more. Anyway, it is my contention, experience, and observation over many, many years that creating just a little bit of physical and/or psychological discomfort (not necessarily a lot — although it can work that way too) increases engagement, increases consumption & sales, and makes for a better experience than painless, easy, and totally frictionless. This ain’t no joke either. I don’t care if we’re talking about consuming your content or whether we’re talking about something like design. No, it’s not “logical.” And to the snobby types it makes zero sense. But snobs rarely do as well as the slobs. And to prove this can be true, I go into a lot more detail about this in the special bonus training I am including with the November Email Players issue I can’t make anyone any promises. But, I will say this: Once you start looking for what I speak of in that bonus training, I believe you’ll absolutely start seeing this phenomenon more often than not after you are done reading this. Almost like a “red pill” moment in the Matrix. After that? It’s just a matter of playing around with it. In a lot of ways it's easier to do marketing the way I describe in this bonus I am including with the November Email Players issue. The hurdle most face when I explain it to them is their natural psychological resistance to even trying it, much less believing it can work.
