Many years ago (circa 2008 - 2009) I did a lot of copywriting work for a guy named Captain Chris. He was one of the biggest â if not the biggest â players in the self defense info publishing game at that particular time. And, as a result, he had a lot of trolls, haters, people wanting to bring him down (literally and figuratively). I remember doing my due diligence before writing ads for him, and seeing anons on some of the wilder corners of the internet wishing rape, death, and torture on his family, amongst other things. Anyway, I remember asking him about his way of dealing with that. Especially since I was just starting to get my own little gaggle of trolls at the time. And while mine were not nearly as psychopathic as Chrisâ trolls they were starting to become an irritation and distraction, and I did not really know how to deal with them, much less monetize them like I routinely do today. His answer: âI just ignore them and they eventually get bored and go away and fixate on someone else.â Very good advice. And it goes way beyond trolls. For example, when Willis turned two and started becoming a little monster⦠throwing tantrums, not able to control his temper or emotions⦠freaking out and spazzing out over the dumbest things⦠throwing stuff around⦠I started applying the exact same âtechniqueâ to him. Whenever he would erupt into some fit â no matter what I was doing at the time⦠eating, working, relaxing, did not matter â I would: 1. Stop what I was doing 2. Put him in his room and close the door 3. Let him feed on his own emotions until he realizes how futile it is Now, I say this as if it is easy or Iâm some super stoic. No. My natural inclination is to tell him to shut up, and Stefaniaâs natural inclination is to appease him so he will stop. And in both cases, we would just feed him emotions and reward his bad behavior, which only made him want to do more of what was feeding him and rewarding him. But, when he is ignored, with nobody feeding him emotions or attention? He has no choice but to feed on his own emotions until he calms down. Which brings this back to the Captain Chris lesson. This is troll pathology 101 as well. No, I am not calling Willis a troll (let the creepy pedantic reply guy or gal take note). But while the same technique (ignoring and making them feed on their own emotions) does work on trolls⦠I have found it is a gigantic wasted opportunity not to monetize them, in addition to starving them. Although what I teach about monetizing these idiots is not always so much starving them as potentially giving them really, horrible, disgusting, stomach-wrenching food they want nothing to do with that they would rather starve than eat... and then cramming it down their throats. Enter the November Email Players issue. I talk about several approaches I use to do just that. I also talk (at the end) about something I taught earlier this year in an Email Players issue about monetizing trolls, that one of Americaâs most popular Presidents did to monetize his trolls using a similar kind of method I use to calm Willis. Very powerful info if you want to monetize negativity towards your business. And this is especially true the more polarized the world gets. You can see what else is taught inside in the P.S. below. Otherwise? To subscribe before the looming deadline to get in on time go here: []( Ben Settle P.S. Some of the secrets I teach about this inside include: * The secret behind how one of Americaâs most popular Presidents turned his worst haters into millions of new votes and political victories. * Some shamelessly racist ad copy I wrote for a restaurant for silencing the trolls and haters trying to get it canceled and shut down. * How to potentially turn even outright blackmail attempts against you or your business into sales. (One particularly troubled blue flame special tried to blackmail BerserkerMail earlier this year⦠and I simply did what I teach inside to benefit from it. On another note: If he is ever going to write the blog post he threatened to write about us, I just hope he spells my name rightâ¦as itâll merely be milked for more benefit if he does.) * A secret way of foiling trolls trying to attack or slander you (once demonstrated by Bruce Lee while dispatching a bully) that makes them not only look stupid to anyone watching⦠but makes them ripe for profiting from. * A sneaky way used by Quentin Tarantino to exploit his critics and make a bundle of money at the same time. * A brilliant example (pulled word-for-word from one of Gary Halbertâs stock trading ads) to invalidate experts with more credentials than you about whatever it is you sell. (Gary did not have the credentials of a stock broker, a licensed financial advisor, or celebrity hedge fund manager. But what he did have was this copywriting âaceâ hidden up his sleeve to help him rake in sales despite his lack of credentials.) * Exactly how I used Garyâs trick above to compete and prosper in the overcrowded weight loss niche without any professional credentials or before-and-after pics. * Advice from Mark Twain (and validated by two of the highest direct mail A-list copywriters who ever lived) about how to respond to reply guys complaining about typos in your emails, sales copy, or other content. * How to âtastefullyâ destroy & bury the credibility of trolls who spread lies about you. * Best way I have ever probably used to monetize snarky reply guy emails sending âdrive byâ insults. * A shrewd copywriting trick Trump recently used to make Kamalaâs economic promises sound even more insane and idiotic than they already did. * Why celebrities are some of the best in the world at troll monetization (they almost have to be, to survive)⦠as well as a perfect example I saw one do that nearly anyone can swipe/model for emails. * The âeye pokeâ trick I use on social media to simultaneously mock reply guys & trolls while also helping my business get more sales, draw more fans, and build stronger customer relationships.
