We discuss the power of unlearning and relearning and her ongoing fight for women’s health in every decade of their lives. We also talk about the growing “menoposse” — a group of thought leaders and clinicians who are using their platforms to change the outdated narrative around menopause. Never simply a feeling. — bell hooks] FROM BRENÉ The Midlife Unraveling [Cover of Father Richard Rohr's book: Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life]( When Fr. Richard asked me to write the forward for the new edition of [Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life]( — I couldn’t say no. It’s been such an ornery guide for my own midlife journey. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it with a little disclaimer of “it’s a warm hug and a direct kick to the ass in one small book.” Here is an excerpt from an article I wrote in 2018 called [The Midlife Unraveling]( Midlife is not a crisis. Midlife is an unraveling. By definition, you can’t control or manage an unraveling. You can’t cure the midlife unraveling with control any more than the acquisitions, accomplishments, and alpha-parenting of our thirties cured our deep longing for permission to slow down and be imperfect. Midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear: “I’m not screwing around. All of this pretending and performing—these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt—has to go. Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy and lovable, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever. Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through your veins. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.” [Read the Article]( Popular on the Website [Headshot of Jlin with the High Five hands as the background]( HIGH FIVE 5 Questions With Jlin on Rhythm, Math, and Trusting the Process by Zehra Javed [Headshot of Dr. Joy Buolamwini on a blue background]( DARE TO LEAD Dr. Joy Buolamwini on Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What Is Human in a World of Machines with Brené Brown [Art for the 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living, designed by Andrea Pippins]( DOWNLOADS Ten Guideposts for Wholehearted Living IIlustrated by Andrea Pippins Stay awkward, brave, and kind, Follow Brené on social!
