The New Menopause
In the fourth episode of our eight-part series of Unlocking Us that Iâm calling âOn My Heart and Mind,â Iâm talking to Dr. Mary Claire Haver on menopause. We discuss the power of unlearning and relearning and her ongoing fight for womenâs health in every decade of their lives. We also talk about the growing âmenoposseâ â a group of thought leaders and clinicians who are using their platforms to change the outdated narrative around menopause. Stand Your Ground: A Black Feminist Reckoning with Americaâs Gun Problem
In this episode with the always thought-provoking Roxane Gay, we discuss her long-form essay on Black gun ownership including how the gun industry frames women as victims in waiting and the importance of dismantling the trope of the âgood man with a gun.â [Listen to the Episode]( [Black and white image of two women hugging with the quote "How many generations must suffer loss before we realize that peace is the only path to security and freedom?" from the American Friends of the Parents Circle Families Forum](

The Midlife Unraveling [Cover of Father Richard Rohr's book: Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life](
When Fr. Richard asked me to write the forward for the new edition of [Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life]( â I couldnât say no. Itâs been such an ornery guide for my own midlife journey. If you havenât read it, I highly recommend it with a little disclaimer of âitâs a warm hug and a direct kick to the ass in one small book.â Here is an excerpt from an article I wrote in 2018 called [The Midlife Unraveling]( Midlife is not a crisis. Midlife is an unraveling. By definition, you canât control or manage an unraveling. You canât cure the midlife unraveling with control any more than the acquisitions, accomplishments, and alpha-parenting of our thirties cured our deep longing for permission to slow down and be imperfect. Midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear: âIâm not screwing around. All of this pretending and performingâthese coping mechanisms that youâve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurtâhas to go. Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy and lovable, but youâre still searching and youâre more lost than ever. Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You canât live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through your veins. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. Itâs time to show up and be seen.â [Read the Article]( Popular on the Website [Headshot of Jlin with the High Five hands as the background](
