Meet Clint Smith + the Huerta Bros, and Happy Birthday, "Bad Feminist" - Clint Smith is a writer, a teacher, and a scholar as well as an artist... [A pair of weathered wooden doors, painted in a faded teal, with a mail slot showing letters partially sticking out.] From Brené AUGUST 15, 2024 newsletter ABK EDIT Clint Smith on practices, poetry, and trying to be present. [Clint Smith at his home in Maryland sitting on a black couch while flipping through a book.]( Writer Clint Smith at home in Maryland; photography by Savannah Lauren. Clint Smith is a writer, a teacher, and a scholar as well as an artist, an activist, and an avid Arsenal fan. He shared his thoughts on vulnerability with us in this Daring Interview on the ABK Edit: What role does vulnerability play in your work? As a writer, my preoccupation lies in wrestling with questions more than trying to find a specific answer to those questions. I’m interested in complexity, in nuance, in holding multiple truths alongside one another. In my work, part of what vulnerability looks like is presenting myself not as an expert on a given issue but as someone who is curious and trying to fill in the gaps of my own understanding. That way, I think, the reader feels as if they are on a journey alongside you, rather than being preached at. You can do both, but the bridge you must cross is vulnerability.] [Screenshot of Brené, Daniel Huerta, and Stephen Huerta on a video call making the Hook 'Em Horns symbol.]( IN THE NEWS The Modern People Leader Podcast Last week, I joined Daniel and Stephen Huerta, two UT alums, on the Modern People Leader podcast.
