An alternative career, a week in my life, what I’m loving, and what’s new on the ABK Edit.

An alternative career, a week in my life, what I’m loving, and what’s new on the ABK Edit. [An open mailbox in a field] From Brené JULY 26, 2024 newsletter [A throwback photo of Brené in her prom dress and a swatch of the Pantone Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz] AN ALTERNATIVE CAREER Pantone, Prom, and Space for Creativity Sometimes I think about my “in a different life” job. My alternative-life-jobs change all of the time, and singer/songwriter is always on rotation. This week I was thinking about being the Pantone “Color of the Year” picker. I will say that the 2024 Color of the Year — Peach Fuzz — takes me right back to my 1988 prom dress. I probably wouldn’t be very good at this job because every year would be some variation of teal or blue/green. Although — I do tend to assign colors to cultural issues and emotions. Maybe. Who knows? According to their website, “The Pantone Color Institute originally created the Pantone Color of the Year educational program in 1999 to engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color. We wanted to draw attention to the relationship between culture and color — to highlight to our audience how what is taking place in our global culture is expressed and reflected through the language of color.” For me, I think there’s a correlation between my job picks and what I want more of in my life. Space for creativity is always a big theme. I shared these thoughts on LinkedIn, and Pantone even responded: [Pantone's comment in response to Brené's post on LinkedIn: We absolutely love this reflection! The 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, truly does have a nostalgic charm. It's fascinating how colors can evoke such vivid memories and emotions. And you're right — the connection between culture and color is profound. At Pantone, we strive to highlight this relationship and inspire creativity and conversation around it. ] [Join the Conversation on LinkedIn]( A Week in My Life [Reading: Just This by Richard Rohr, Songs on Repeat: All That and More (Sailboat) by Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Grateful for: A weekend of play with Steve and my kids] [Quote I'm Leaning Into: "Life is more about consistency than intensity. Jørgen Dahl Moe covering “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen is such a gorgeous example. They shared these thoughts on creativity with us in a Creative Love interview on the ABK Edit: What do you enjoy the most about creating? We both love that feeling you had when you were a kid creating something; you have an idea in your head and you bring it to life. The only difference now is that we have the resources and know-how to reach the results we wanted and often even improve on what we’d imagined! The process of planning and seeing an idea realized is so special, and we always love trying new mediums for that reason. You learn so much along the way, and we always find that things overlap and each medium informs the next in some way.
