Thank you for helping us help the Animal Care Centers of NYC! [BarkShop logo]( Thank you for helping us help the Animal Care Centers of NYC! [Spice Girl 1](Spice Girl from Animal Care Centers of NYC This past Tuesday, we celebrated the dedication the [Animal Care Centers of New York City]( show every single one of their dogs, no matter how challenging. Thanks to you, we were able to donate $100,000 —including treats and toys— for the entirety of 2019 to support their enrichment programs. We’d like you to meet some of the real-life dogs you helped find forever homes! This is Damien, a former stray. You might be able to see some of the heartache in his eyes. [Damien 1](Damien from Animal Care Centers of NYC Despite being a bona fide “rockstar” with his human admirers, his relationship with other dogs wasn’t as effortless. He grew depressed during his extended stay at the [Animal Care Centers]( and broke the hearts of everyone who loved him. So you know what the Behavior Team did? They showered him with his favorite plush toys (which he nibbled but never destroyed), special snacks, and frequent breaks napping with team members in a quiet room. [Damien 2](Damien from Animal Care Centers of NYC Consequently, one of ACC’s New Hope partners chose Damien to aid on his next adventure: finding a family. He’s since found his human soulmates. Meet Spice Girl! [Spice Girl 2](Spice Girl from Animal Care Centers of NYC She’ll tell you what she wants, what she really really wants: to play! Found tied to a fire hydrant and delivered to ACC by a kind stranger, Spice Girl wasn’t the most polite lady the Behavior Team had ever met, and she took a while to warm up to people. Lots of treats and rewarding walks soon led the team to discover that Spice Girl wanted nothing more than to engage with other dogs. “Her body would become loose, soft, and she’d offer play bows,” said her caretakers. [Spice Girl 3](Spice Girl from Animal Care Centers of NYC When she joined playgroup for the first time, Spice Girl’s handlers couldn’t shake an immense feeling of pride. She jumped right into excited, bouncy play, and grew significantly more trusting of humans over time. As fate would have it, she found her forever home with the same person who found her tied to that fire hydrant. Lots of down-on-their-luck dogs need help breaking through their outer shell of fear, helplessness, and uncertainty to embrace the love and help the shelter staff at the [Animal Care Centers of NYC]( has to offer. With your help, we were able to [double our usual 5% donation to 10% of our proceeds](, making a few more dogs just a little happier on their road to finding a forever family.
