It’s a writer’s superpower … [The Writer’ s Life]( January 22, 2024 "I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity." – Eleanor Roosevelt Happy Monday, {NAME}! I'm often asked what characteristics make a successful copywriter. If I think for too long, I start firing off all the things I want in a copywriter … Someone who meets deadlines, takes feedback, and cares about results. But what makes a really good copywriter … someone who clients hold on to so tightly they can pretty much "write their own ticket" … is curiosity. The desire to learn more is a quality that can't be beat. Someone who doesn't take the first answer … but rather asks a few follow-up questions to dig deeper. Someone who opens numerous loops when researching … and excitedly goes down rabbit holes to find the answers and close them. Someone who is enthusiastic about learning more … and isn't looking to just get the job done. Expert Nick Usborne says he believes curiosity is what has helped him maintain a six-figure writing career for over four decades now (!!). It's also what makes him excited to get to work each day … wondering what new thing he'll get to learn. In today's Monday Morning Jumpstart, Nick and Jade Trueblood dig into numerous benefits of being curious … for you, your writing, and the clients you choose to work with. They also give you ideas on how to feed your curiosity daily … and even show you how to use curiosity to make clients EXCITED to work with you. As the infamous copywriting master Bob Bly once told me, "For the professional writer, school is never out." And as Nick reveals today, even after all these years of working with some of the biggest brands on the planet (Microsoft, Disney, Apple, The New York Times, and more), he STILL continues to take courses and up his skills.
