Writing with empathy is one of the most crucial skills you can have as a persuasive copywriter August 22, 2024
[The Writer’ s Life]( "A waterfall starts as one drop, and look what becomes of that."
— Stephen Dorff, as P.K. in The Power of One Hi {NAME}, It's far easier to connect with a reader on an emotional level when you genuinely care about them … It's one of the reasons why we teach writers how to get to know their prospect on an intimate level, in all of our writing courses. Because when you write from a place of empathy … in a way that's informative, helpful, useful, and even comforting … your copy and content will always be more effective. Mindy McHorse, successful copywriter and Barefoot Writer's executive editor, is here with a new technique she discovered that makes it easier to tap into and relate to a reader's emotions. She reveals it in the article below — including the science behind why it works, and how to use this information to write more meaningful copy. When you combine the ability to connect with a solid knowledge of how direct response works, and the fundamentals of good copy, you are golden. No company will ever want to lose you! (And you'll be paid accordingly too.) If you're not yet getting paid to write, [this little package]( we've put together for you will help you get started … It combines our Barefoot Writer with training and tools to help you make the leap to paid write … for only $11. By Mindy McHorse Tell me if this has ever happened to you … You're sitting across from someone, having a nice conversation, and they scratch their nose. Without thinking, you reach up and scratch your nose, too. Then you lean back in your chair and cross your arms over your chest. In a matter of minutes, your companion's arms are crossed as well. Have you ever wondered what's really going on in those situations? Why we so often seem to copy each other's actions without thinking about it? The secret to these unwitting acts of copycatting lies in something called mirror neurons. It's the brain-to-brain imitation of facial expressions, mannerisms, and positions. Really, it's a form of automatic "matching" that prompts human connection — even if you're not really intending to connect. And when approached with care, these same mirror neurons can make your own writing a hundred times more empathetic, and therefore effective. And we've been going there almost every summer for the past five years, staying at least a week to 10 days at a time. She likes hanging out at the shoreline, soaking up the sun. I don't mind doing that, but not all day long as she likes to do. I like to get in the water, cool down, and swim. But she never sets a toe in the ocean. Don't get me wrong. She likes to swim. When she is not at the beach, she's floating around in the pool. After several times of traveling to her beach home, I finally asked why she never swims in the ocean.
