And how to get both... August 16, 2024 [The Writer’ s Life]( "The secret of getting ahead is getting started." β€” Mark Twain Hi {NAME}, If you're getting into writing because you want to get paid to do something you love … But you don't love the idea of reaching out to clients … 😬 You don't have to! As we've seen all week, you can get paid to write about your absolute favorite things … Without any clients at all. Instead, you can become your own client β€” and earn a hefty side income writing about your favorite things. But today, I want to share a simple way to get started … in as little as three hours a week. I'm talking about creating your own [Money-Making Website](. Some writers do it as a very spare-time way to make extra cash … Some end up making their entire living happily writing about their favorite things on their own website … And some, like my friend Jen Phillips April, use it as a springboard to launch their freelance writing careers. The topic of Jen's Money-Making Website? All-natural dog treats! Sound like a small niche? Writing on that topic, Jen was able to grow her site to 87,500 visitors a month! If you'd love a place to write about something you're passionate about that … doesn't require any clients … takes only an hour here and there … and can pad your income in a big way … Here's a checklist to give you a little head start from Jen Phillips April, AWAI Success and Money-Making Website owner … 1. Choose Your Topic β€” What's something you could speak about for 15 minutes without any preparation? Anything is a potential topic. For example, "How to make healthy and easy single-person meals" is a viable topic. Some people turned their knowledge of the spreadsheet program Excel into profitable businesses. You can check out "Mr. Excel." 2. What's Your Angle? β€” Here's the important thing about starting a Money-Making Website: You need a point of view. That's what makes your site stand out. Journalists call it an "angle." To paraphrase Dr. Seuss, "Be the you-est you you can be." It'll attract like-minded people. You'll be true to your authentic self β€” and readers will recognize that. 3. Be Helpful, with a Purpose β€” A Money-Making Website isn't a personal diary or blog. It's an informational site. You want to inform, educate, and entertain. You want to stick to one topic and share your experiences in the service of helping others. Maybe you're sharing homeopathic remedies for Chihuahua lovers (there's a 20,000-plus-people-strong "Holistic Chihuahua" Facebook group). Or, you share hidden gems about your hometown. Whatever you choose, you want to keep it on a theme. That theme offers you ways to make money. For example, suppose you're sharing those holistic remedies for Chihuahuas. In that case, you can offer Chihuahua-themed merchandise for sale (Hello, Amazon and CafΓ© Press!). You can also sell specialty dog food, treats, and more via a big pet retailer as an affiliate. The formula for a Money-Making Website is simple. Write about your passion, answer people's questions, and they buy things from your site. #winning 4. Choose Your Platform β€” WordPress, Square, Wix … There are many website-building tools available. Some include your domain name and hosting as part of a monthly rate. Or, they'll walk you through what you need to do about buying a domain name and hosting. 5. Plan Your Key Pages β€” Homepage, Contact Us, and so on. These will be in your navigation bar, so they need to be broad categories. If your topic is on Mexican chocolate, your navigation bar might include different regions of Mexico. From there, you'll have sub-tier pages that offer specifics about the chocolate's growing, the making of the chocolate, where to buy the chocolate, and more. You don't need to plan the whole site yet, but map out your first five to 10 pages. If you're reading this and already thinking up ideas … We cover Money-Making Websites in the Opportunity Report [The Secret of the 1-Hour Work Week, which comes FREE with your Barefoot Writer Club membership]( (along with four other guides aimed at accelerating your earning potential!). It felt like 10 years of progress in AI had taken place in the blink of an eye. Within one week, over 1 million people were using ChatGPT. By January 2023, that number had jumped to over 100 million. Today, it's being used every minute of every day by copywriters, coders, students, scientists, entrepreneurs, authors, politicians, and regular people at home wanting to find a quick recipe for mushroom stroganoff. How about me? Do I use ChatGPT to help me with my Money-Making Websites? You bet I do! I have ChatGPT open on my second monitor all the time. I use it every day for my Money-Making Websites in particular. I'm going to walk you through three ways I use ChatGPT.
