Michael’s Monday Motivation "To me, is the outstanding international leader of the 20th century

[View this email in your browser]( Michael’s Monday Motivation "To me, [King] is the outstanding international leader of the 20th century without ever holding office. What he did — I doubt anyone else could have done." Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) January 18, 2015 Would you spend 32 years fighting to celebrate Justice for one day? On April 8, 1968, the late Congressman John Conyers introduced the bill to honor the fallen Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It took until Nov. 2nd, 1983, when then President Ronald Reagan signed the passed bill into law. That 15 year pursuit was just the beginning of the journey. It took another 17 years to have Dr. King's holiday recognized in all 50 states. Reflect on that reality. 32 years to get the country to recognize one person's life for one day a year! It's a powerful testament to believing in a bigger mission. As we celebrate the life of Dr. King, let us ask ourselves: What is one thing that you dedicate yourself to working on for 15 years or even 32 years? "I just never understood / How a man who died for good / Could not have a day that would / Be set aside for his recognition ... in peace, our hearts will sing / Thanks to Martin Luther King Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" Hotter than July (1980) You Never Know Might Pop into a Wednesday KAIROS Conversation! During last weeks KAIROS Conversation, I asked Leslie Odom, Jr. "What is your why?" His inspiring and reflective response:"What I'm trying to do in my life is to offer truthful renderings of Black life. Because when we hold up the mirror what pains me so often is I don't see the truth of what we look like and who we are. When you see a truthful reflection of who you are, you have the opportunity to see yourself as beautiful and flawed and worthy of life. Worthy to take up space." Throughout the 2022 cycle, Future Majority deployed more than $38 million in direct voter communication to advocate for common-sense policy solutions and educate Americans on when and how they can vote. In 2020, Mark was the Founder and Senior Strategist for Unite the Country, the pro-Joe Biden Super PAC. Unite the Country and Future Majority raised over $78 million to promote Joe Biden’s positive message, as well as research and communicate on issues confronting Americans. In 2018, DCCC Chairman Congressman (now U.S. Senator) Ben Ray Lujan said, “Future Majority’s research and messaging recommendations were very helpful as we developed the narrative to win back the House.” From 2011-2019, Mark was the President of the New Leaders Council, one of the nation’s premier progressive leadership training organizations for next generation political and business entrepreneurs. Under his leadership, NLC expanded to 50 chapters with nearly 9,000 alumni. See you Wednesday!
