Michael’s Monday Motivation We choose to Rise and not Retreat. We choose to Rise and not Run

[View this email in your browser]( Michael’s Monday Motivation We choose to Rise and not Retreat. We choose to Rise and not Run We choose to Rise and not Reel. It's a choice to make when the heat, the pressure, the challenges of life are upon you. Whether it's enduring the literal temperature in Phoenix of more than 100 straight days above 100 degrees or the emotional fire when being placed face down on the ground and then when stood up, hit for more seemingly reason, it would be easy to fall and wilt away but rather we choose to Rise. Rise like the mythological bird that continued to reinvent itself and bring new life from the ashes. Rise like the courageous public servants before us so that as thousands embark on Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Black Caucus' Annual Legislative Conference, you are creating a legacy that the Ancestors will smile about for generations to come Rise like Colin who stood up after taking a Knee or Tyreek who wouldn't be denied after getting a knee in his back. Rise Beloved. Don't let anyone tell your story or play your Trumpet nor let any rock cry out for you. It will be challenging, but, it will all be worth it. Worry less about the Voices; focus more on the Victory. Whenever someone tries to bring you down, Rise like the Phoenix once more! From Broadway to the big screen, one of the most recognizable voices of our time, will now be silent. RIP James Earl Jones. Happy National Literacy Month! How You Can Help: 1) Donate Today: [Your support]( directly impacts our ability to provide boy-approved books, create reading spaces in barbershops, and develop programs that encourage a lifelong love of reading. Every donation, big or small, helps us reach more children and empower them with the tools they need to succeed. $30 can supply one barber with early literacy training, and $200 can supply one participating barbershop with a year's supply of books.   2) Create a Facebook Fundraiser: Want to amplify your impact? Start your own Facebook fundraiser for Barbershop Books! It’s an easy and effective way to rally your friends and family around a cause you care about. In just a few clicks, you can help spread the word about our mission and raise funds to support our programs.  3) Raise Awareness: Spread the word about Barbershop Books by sharing our mission with your friends and family. Whether it’s through social media, email, or a simple conversation, your voice can help us close the literacy gap for Black boys and other boys of color. Encourage others to get involved, donate, or start their own fundraiser! [Donate For Literacy Today!]( The MBK-Obama Leadership Academy At the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, we strive to consistently present our boys and young men of color with opportunities to thrive. This summer in Chicago, we did just that for more than 100 young men through our first-ever MBK-Obama Leadership Academy. This panel discussion will touch on some main tenets of the Black Wealth Agenda and further explore how these tenants can and have been used in practice from leaders who are working directly with the Black community to improve their socioeconomic status and civic engagement. Hosted by Congresswoman Terri Sewell, join us for an engaging discussion on The Future of College Sports: The Changing Landscape of Collegiate Athletics, featuring none other than the Greatest of All Time (GOAT), Coach Nick Saban, former head coach of the University of Alabama.
