[View this email in your browser]( It’s impossible to find the right words to ease the pain the loss of four brilliant ones at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The loss of two children is irreplaceable—their futures unpaved and their love unrealized. The two teachers gunned down were gatekeepers of knowledge and curiosity, leaving their families to grieve. They became ancestors too soon—no child, educator, or parent should worry about making it home from school. We honor those who ran into the storm—the selfless leaders who risked their lives to protect the students at Apalachee High School. I look to faith and scripture, which remind us, 'Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.' We will end gun violence in our schools when we listen to our children and band together, regardless of who we vote for or where we call home, to fight senseless violence. We are here for the families, who witnessed and experienced violence and now carry trauma that we must help heal—not with rhetoric, but with actions. We must advocate for change, demand lawmakers listen, and pass gun reform and mental health services for our children. Let’s not ban books that teach acceptance; let’s ban assault rifles that take children’s lives. A reflection and commitment to our values as a nation protecting Americans from all threats must guide our response for the students of Apalachee High School and the people of Winder, so they will experience joy again.
