{NAME}, This month marks six years since I first ran for Congress. I'm not someone who ever thought that I would run for office. But six years ago, things changed. My area of New Jersey was represented by someone who was the lead author of a horrendous bill to repeal health care coverage. In 2017 it passed the House of Representatives with an amendment that gutted pre-existing condition protections. That was my Congressman from New Jersey. He represented me and my family. He was the one that came up with the idea to gut preexisting condition protections. I felt betrayed by my own Congressperson. I couldn't believe that he represented my community, my family. My father had polio and beat it – I'm the son of a polio survivor. My youngest son, who was just a newborn at that time, had health challenges of his own. He now had a preexisting condition. After they passed that terrible health care bill in the House, I told my wife that I felt we could and needed to do something to hold our congressperson accountable. It was unacceptable to support ripping health care coverage away from millions with preexisting conditions. So I decided to run. The person I was taking on had won his previous election by a large margin, and Trump had easily won this district. So when I announced I was running, a lot of people, including people within my own political party, told me, you know, you seem like a nice guy and all, but there's no way you're going to be able to win this seat in Congress. I didn't listen. I was determined to bring people together and build a movement for change. Six years later, I'm glad that not only was I able to continue on but show that we can win. I can say with certainty that I wouldn't be in Congress without the support of our grassroots movement and people like you, {NAME}. [This is still a divided district, and today, I am asking for your continued support. My campaign is approaching our end-of-quarter deadline, and we need to raise $14,315 more to reach our goal.
