{NAME}, Six years ago, when I told friends and family that I was going to run for Congress, I'm sure most of them thought it was crazy and wondered, "Why would he ever want to do that?" My answer? If I have concerns about what is happening in our country, what am I going to do about it? I never planned to run for elected office, but my parents instilled in me a commitment to a life of service, and someone had to step up. I'm not going to assume someone else will fight my fights for me. I believe that government can be a force for good in people's lives and, as one of my earliest mentors told me, that you can't have good government without good people in government. Six years ago, we were halfway through Trump's presidency. Only 20% of Americans had trust in their government, according to Pew research. Today, Donald Trump is facing 37 felony charges and multiple ongoing investigations. And still, that trust number remains painfully stagnant. Stuck because of partisan knife fighting, corruption, weakened democratic institutions, and a sense that government isn't working for the people it ought to be serving. It's a sad day for our country. Like you, I didn't need to see this indictment to know how dangerous unchecked ego, a culture of corruption, and a trust deficit are to our republic. But you know what, {NAME}? I'm still hopeful about America. We can pass strong ethics rules, ensure transparency, strengthen our democratic institutions, and restore people's trust in government. To do that, we have to support good people who are willing to work hard and fight for our democracy. I still believe, now more than ever that you truly can't have good government without good people in government. Andy Paid for by Andy Kim for Congress.
