Will you help end this epidemic? [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( Dear {NAME}, We are reeling from the news last night of a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. Reports are stating the shooter used an AR-15 rifle to kill at least 18 people. This is the SAME type of deadly assault weapon used in shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas. We cannot accept this as normal. We cannot allow our elected leaders to do nothing. Every single day, an average of 115 Americans are killed by gun violence.1,2Every single day. This is a human rights emergency. We are not safe until our lawmakers take concrete action. That’s why we need you, {NAME}. [Help pass lifesaving legislation to end gun violence. There are four concrete actions we’re demanding that members of Congress take to save lives, and we need your voice right now »]( With one letter to your legislators, you’ll push forward four common-sense pieces of legislation: - Passing the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023 and finally regulating the use of these tools of death which lead to far deadlier mass casualty events. [Act Now »]( - Enforcing universal background checks which will help prevent people who pose a risk to others from owning guns. [Act Now »]( - Passing the Break the Cycle of Violence, which would provide $5 billion in funding for community violence prevention and intervention programs across the country [Act Now »]( - Passing Ethan’s Law, a measure that will require safe storage to protect children and others from unsecured firearms. [Act Now »]( [Take action to end gun violence]( We’ve proven that all aspects of life in the U.S. have been compromised by the unfettered access to guns, and we’re working to stop this human rights crisis. Through a combination of research, advocacy, and grassroots organizing, we’re fighting for a world free of violence and fear. Amnesty campaigners actively meet with lawmakers to make policy recommendations and their extensive research has been used to draft new gun control legislation across the country. People are depending on us, {NAME}. Communities like the one in Lewiston, Maine. Children and families in every state. And, right now, we cannot rely on our leaders to do the right thing without a whole lot of pressure. [Hold your members of Congress accountable and push them to take meaningful action to end gun violence in the U.S.]( Thank you for being a powerful voice for change, Ernest Coverson Director of Gun Violence Prevention Amnesty International USA P.S. {NAME}, certain firearms and types of ammunition represent an unacceptable risk to public safety and should be banned for personal use. People have a right to be safe from gun violence. [Take action with us today.]( [1] [ [2] [( © 2023 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY Please don't reply to this email.
