As of October 17, the European Commission's microplastics restriction went into effect, essentially [banning the sale of microplastics]( in consumer products, including those used in cosmetics and detergents. The goal is to find less damaging alternatives to microplastics in order to reduce ocean pollution. The restriction is an arm of the EU's [Green Deal]( that aims to make Europe the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
